iCloud is the name of a future service. It most likely will replace MobileMe as a name (with or without additional features) : AppleInsider
It will not replace iWeb, which is an application on your computer and doesn't need MobileMe per se.
And do you really think your websites will be lost?
Imagine the uproar.
Wait till next week to hear the announcement.
And to be better safe than sorry, make a backup of your website. You'll never know when the rapture happens.
Well, not a rumor anymore. Jobs gave not even a hint of what happens to iWeb from now on. Knowing what Apple have done in the past with other services, expect complete obliteration. They'll probably will send an email sometime this week to MobileMe users with the eviction note.
Bump.
I was a little disappointed that there was no mention of what would happen to iWeb sites hosted on MobileMe.
My MobileMe account expires on June 21 (or did it expire today?) and if I'm gonna be "evicted" I'd sure like to know so I can make some plans.
Log into your MobileMe and read the explanation. MobileMe will be dead 6/30/12.
I look forward to ANY word on iWeb, so as to plan ahead re: websites. I'm couldn't be more disappointed for not having heard ANYTHING from Apple in so long... My MobileMe subscription just renewed less than 3 weeks ago... 😟
Time to move your web and domain to a "grown up" hosting service. I've made the same mistake: never trust Apple with your business.
This is terrible... I believe that Apple will have a solution to this issue, but I can't help but think we are a handful of iWeb users (supports) that feel like Apple have over looked this massive issue !
I guess my subscription fee will now have to go to some web host that I don't trust and then I will have to mess around with FTP's etc etc... Wonderful !
yay free untill 2012! http://yfrog.com/h3xrioxj
I'm asking a online rep and will place my answer here whene I get one.
I'm probably waiting in the same queue 🙂
I asked an online rep, and they deferred me to the Fall for more info.
Cheers, saves me waiting. I am asking for a refund on my MobileMe just renewed subs so I can pay for an alternative host.
Not very happy about this. All of my department's Outreach materials for the last 3.5 years are on MM; over 400 blog pages!
I've had a bad feeling for awhile that Apple was going to abandon all of us iWeb users.
I look forward to hearing what they have to say if anything.
I am in the same boat with dozens of iweb sites hosted on mobileme for business clients
very worrying times !
To tell you te truth We should should've all expected this...
With no new updates to iWeb in a good couple of years, even though it's an amazing piece of software enjoyed by million. It upsets me no end to see apple continually doing this and what have they done exactly? Left goodness knows how many customers worried and uncertain about a product they love and rely on, I do anyway.
One of the main reasons I have a Mac isn't only the build quality and the OS, although that does have a fair amount to do with it. The main reason for me moving to Apple and investing in a machine all those years ago was iWeb, being a creative control freak, I love to be able to get out my Mac, open iWeb and in minutes create a new launch page for a new mix, upgrade some of my services a customers asked for, recreate any aspect of how I present myself to people at a click of a button... I know you can upload to FTP server but phooey, why damage a good thing.
This as annoyed me no end... so I'll not doubt I'll be taking it out on an Apple employee tomorrow when I take back my blown power pack for my MacBook pro, my third one in 8 months... I sign of the way apple is going?
PS as for iOS 5 ... Seriously underwhelmed, we've been given features 90% of which should have been launched in iOS3!.. Oh, although I can't handle windows anymore, have you see. The new Windows 8 layer? Watch out Apple, he's behind you
One June 30, 2012 MobileMe will cease to exist. See this Apple document: Information about the MobileMe transformation.
The following is the beginning of that document:
What's happening to MobileMe?
Effective June 6, 2011, if you had an active MobileMe account, your service has been automatically extended through June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After this, the MobileMe service will no longer be available.
So, we may all have to look elsewhere to host our web pages. I've been Googling iCloud and MobileMe to see if there's any indication that iCloud will be able to host sites. So far: nada. 😟
