Still cannot rent a movie - error 5002. I am on the west coast of USA. Changed to strong password, repaired permissions, rebooted, etc. Has Apple even acknowledged this situation?
I'm in Southern California running iTunes 10.6, OS 10.6.8 on 2.4GHz C2D iMac. Since yesterday (3/11/12) I get the same message "Could not rent [movie title]. An unknown error occurred (5002). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." This 5002 error is specific to renting/buying movies, for me, b/c I can buy & update apps, log into my account, etc. without any problem.I tried to buy and rent different movie titles with the same result. None of the fixes recommended in this post and in "more like this" relieved the problem, nor did editing billing and shipping, rebooting, etc. Any other suggestions?
Hi, I was getting the same error and googled it and found your message board post. I opened safari and deleted all cookies and closed it and tried again to rent a movie and it worked, try that.
I have Win7 64 bit OS with iTunes 10.6 and was getting the 5002 error when renting movie. I did the following...
- launched iTunes, frrom the menu bar clicked iTunes / Preferences
- then selected the Advanced tab.
- Clicked: Reset warnings and Reset cache then clicked OK.
....and was able to rent movies after this.
FYI: renting movies on i-tunes is now working for me. I have not tried any fixes since last night. I did not clear cookies from Safari or the browser I usually use, Firefox - though I don't know what this would have to do with i-tunes (but stranger incompatabilities are not unfamiliar in the digital world) - or went to the Advanced Tab in i-tunes. I assume Apple fixed the problem on their end.
I am also in Canada and I am experiencing this issue on log in.
On my iPhone the Apple ID works for iCloud! But not iTunes....I cannot download any apps even free. I tryed updating my password to the new security requirements and the issue persists. On the iPhone it just says 'an inknown error occured' but on the computer with itunes i got the 5002 error message.
My software is completely up to date on the iphone.
The weirdest part is that it works with iCloud????
This alert is often the result of an issue with verifying your billing.
I'm getting the same error too so frustrating uhhhh!:(
