iMac purchase advice

I intend on buying an iMac 27" soon, probably as soon as Lion is available. I'm a 54 y/o guy. I use my desktop for all basic computer needs, for communication with my employer (bidding work schedules, keeping informed about the co., training, etc.), Internet, banking, tracking/controlling investments, tracking family budget and finances, email, some gaming (not a rampant. gamer;-), news feeds, Skyeping, some word processing, I teach an occasional class & give occasional lectures, (is iWork enough for this, I wonder?), distance learning (completing a graduate degree online), and I plan on expanding my hobby on photo and video editing, in particular, digitizing old family photos and old family videos, an creating memorable slideshows and music videos for me and my family and friends. I also have a first generation iPad, my wife an I have small iPods, and intend to each get an iPhone as soon as the refresh happens.

Can someone give me some advice on how to equip my iMac 27" so that I am not getting too little or too much? I would like to stay under $2,100 if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Roger, just wondering if you are still happy with ibank? I am wanting to make a shift before Lion is released. I did some searching on reviews of ibank and most are quite favorable. I did find a few people with issues on how it reconciles the accounts, saying it is nothing like quicken and hard to understand. Any thoughts?

Will you pay for this at the end of your 30 days?

Thanks for any wisdom you have on this.. I'm feeling the push to deal soon since Lion will not work with Q7 and I don't have bootcamp or parallels and don't really know if I want to add that kind of software anyway... and I think I'd still then have to move my mac Q7 files to the windows versions, to run in bootcamp.. right? If so, if I have to export and deal with tidying up the export, I want to choose the one that I think will work the best so I don't have to do it too many times.. make sense?

thanks ;-)

Michelle,

I liked it enough to have already paid for it. No problems with it and I found it pretty intuitive coming from Quicken. I wouldn't waste your time with Boot Camp and Quicken for Windows. Download the trail version and begin using it, it's a 100% full version that will last for 30 days. For most 30 days is more than enough time to make a decision. They have online tutorials that I found very helpful, you can find those on their website. If you find you don't like it you have no obligation other than the time you invested.

Thanks Roger, I think I will give it a try. I did call my bank (Chase) and they said they are now only supporting quicken and quickbooks, so I will not be able to get any of my banking directly exported. I was thinking of leaving Chase anyway, so this might be what pushes me. I called BECU (I live in the PNW) and they support quicken, quickbooks and money, but said ibank will work with their export, but they do not provide any tech help, should a customer run into trouble with the process.

Out of curiosity, I may check with a few more banks in my area, but I am sure there are a lot of users who are able to get their bank to 'talk to' ibank so I'll keep looking in to it.

Hi Roger...sorry to bother you, but I thought you might have some insight into this. If you have time, could you read my Discussions question, "Problems with AOL in Mail", and let me know if you can help me?

Thanks so much!

Other than this issue (which may be an AOL problem), our iMac has been super, and have been really enjoying it!
