Not sure if this will help anyone...

While surfing the http://www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/#/gb/en/passenger site I noticed there is a bluetooth software update for the C-class (Update_SAP_V4_DE_EN.zip).

After selecting the C-class from the passenger vehicle drop down, click the 'Downloads' button at the top right of the box.

Guessing the update instructions will be contained in the zip file.

I'm still at work so haven't downloaded or tried this out yet but might help someone here.

Hi mohdmh99

When i purchased the car the dealer was fully aware i wanted to use it with a iPhone 4-on collection of the car the sales person tried to connect to the command online by tethering to obtain the internet(data) it failed.

contacted the mobile phone company who upgraded my package-still no go.contacted the dealer(who had NEVER seen the data side working )they surgested the command needed software update, when i collected the car 2 hours later they told myself won't work with the Iphone 4 you need to buy another smartphone!!!

I have sent 3 letters to Mercedes Germany and they agree it won't work with the iPhone 4-what poor service-but lets face it Apple are such a small player ONLY SOLD OVER 60 MILLION WORLDWIDE!!

Wake up Mercedes and talk to Apple about getting this resolved before it damages the Mercedes name.

Hi mercedesmike,

Thank you for your response.

I totally agree with you that MB will lose their customers if they start not respecting the fact that their systems should work fully with all the common devices especially the iPhone. Ethically, they should make it clear to the buyer that the command online will not work with iPhone before buying the car. Otherwise, they will get tons of complains.

I’m an iPhone fan and looking to get an E-class 2012. I hope this problem is solved in the new models!!

Best regards,

Hi mohdmh99

I am a Apple fan and a Mercedes fan(5th) its so sad because the C250 Sport is the best Mercedes i have owned-can't fault it other than the Command online system, the phone part works fine much better than the last one.

When i spoke to the manager at the Mercedes garage he seemed not to understand that this would cause him problems when selling new cars with the command online in the future-he had never seen the the system working and that also went for the sales staff-how can you sell something that you don't understand??

Good luck with the future Mercedes purchase if i get an update from Mercedes i will let you know what they say ):

To overcome this problem, Mercedes will be adding other ways by which users can connect to the internet. In an official statement to Telematics News, Mercedes told us:

Mercedes-Benz is working with its suppliers to integrate automotive qualified Bluetooth chipset with PAN capability (Personal Area Network) and will be ready for market launch 2nd half 2012.

PAN is the second Bluetooth standard for tethering, gaining popularity since Apple enabled Bluetooth tethering capability in its iPhone 4 with iOS4 based on PAN only.

ANDROID currently neither supports DUN nor PAN, but has announced support for PAN in the next OS generation as standard feature. Furthermore Mercedes-Benz is in close talks with leading Android phone vendors to enable the DUN feature in their phones by default.

An option for customers having phones without DUN support is the Mercedes-Benz “Bluetooth (SAP) telephone module - V4″, available early 2012. The new version (V4) offers UMTS capability, allowing fast data connection using customer SIM card or accessing SIM information from SAP (SIM Access Profile) enabled mobile phone.

Why Mercedes Germany or the dealer could not tell myself this god only knows- found this on the internet hope this helps

Hi All,

I'm an italian iPhone fan and my car is the new C300CDI 4Matic MY2012.

As you wrote, the iPhone 4 is not working with Comand online 4.5 and I'm very upset.

When i bought the car in march 2011 the dealer confirm the iPhone run properly but when I take the car in July 2011, I have discovered that the data conniption is not possible.

Now I have contacted Mercedes trought an Italian forum and they told me that a new upgrade in September will fix this issue.

I really hope so, but if they need to upgrade the HW, I feel that the new firmware will not run in my new car.

I really do not understand why Mercedes is not taking care about the million of Apple users.

I also not understand why Apple is not implementing the DUN bluetooth protocol in the iPhone.

There are two big players that are not talking each other and the users (their customer) will stay with the problem!!!

I hope that one Apple or MB manager will read this message and they take care of us. Thanks.

Owning a Mercedes-Benz is a nightmare. After four BMWs over 20 years, I made a monumental misstep when, on the spur of the moment and temporary insanity, I bought a new 2009 C300 Sport in November, 2009. I would soon discover that MBZ dealerships are staffed by arrogant idiots, both in sales and service.

The fact that they are speaking about the "second half of 2012" for an iPhone solution — potentially 15 months away — is mind-blowing. It's ignorant and beyond disrespectful to their customers. Their corporate role model appears to be Kodak who refused to acknowledge that digital was the future and film was about to be buried and are now paying the price — they're barely breathing. Unlike Kodak, Mercedes-Benz will survive, but they'll be damaged, as indeed they should be.

My solution? I got rid of the C300. I couldn't stand the car even though it had the right ingredients — black-on-black, aluminum trim, 18" AMG wheels, 7-speed transmission, 10" hi-res display, nav, voice command, 400W surround sound, etc.and it was in showroom condition after 18 months and 20,000 miles. Interestingly, the resale had dropped precipitously because, at least in Los Angeles, you can't drive a block without passing a dozen of them, and this is only because of their aggressive pricing and loading the cars with features to sell as many as possible to overcome their horrendous reputation with the previous C-class.

Instead, I bought a 2012 BMW 128i Coupe in July which is planets apart and since it was manufactured in Leipzig in May, it had the BMW apps and smartphone integration options. Sorry to say this to those of you stuck with your MBZ, but it's an iPhone on wheels with total integration. You can do Facebook, Twitter, iPhone calendar, Pandora, Internet radio, video, etc. on the widescreen display — all from the iPhone 4 in the snap-in adaptor which also improves call reception since it connects the phone to the shark fin antenna — and it's perfect, as is the car. And it's just the beginning with many more apps integration to follow. All this, and 4 years of zero cost maintenance.

I'll never again buy another Mercedes-Benz, even if I was kidnapped by heavily-armed militants with an unknown agenda and a penchant for pain. BMWs are breathtaking and the company is totally focused on incorporating the iPhone. And that's right now, not by the end of 2012. I lost $17,000 with the MBZ, but it was worth every penny getting rid of it and the company that made it and the people that sell and service it.

It's unlikely my experience is helpful to many of you but if it dissuades even one person from buying a Mercedes-Benz in favour of a BMW, it will have been time well spent.

Cheers!

Same problem with a brand new 2012 C200. Why can't Apple or Mercedes Benz come up with a Bluetooth DUN app and solve this problem ! There used to be a DUN app in Cydia... why can't apple and Mercedes come up with one, and make their customers happy ! This is as much of a problem for Mercedes Benz as it is for Apple, since Bluetooth DUN is available on a lot of Blackberry devices. I'm not about to cancel an order for my new car because of this, but I will consider replacing my iphone for a blackberry....

I have an iPhone 4S, recent upgrade from 3GS. No problems with 3GS on iOS4 in my '08 Mercedes R-Class, and I can pair the 4S, but that is the end of bluetooth connectivity. When a call comes in, it goes straight to the handset, and if i try to make an outgoing call through command, same problem. Genius bar told me to go to the dealer and get firmware upgrade, but the dealer isn't aware of any. Genius bar said the problem was 4S has bluetooth 4.0 in it, which is not compatible with the current mercedes bluetooth system. Should i go back to a 3GS?

In my other car, I have a Jabra Cruiser handsfree device (handsfree is mandatory in BC), and it doesn't work with the 4S either.... sigh. Trying a firmware update on that today.

Oct 28, 2011 11:27 AM in response to mercedesmike

Before actually purchasing the C200, I went to the dealer and spent nearly an hour with a demo car, setting up my iPhone, and the calling, answering, pairing, unpairing, etc. worked just fine with iOS 4 (have not tried it with iOS 5). The new 2012 models, have a series of APPS for the car unit, which will display local weather, local restaurants, google search, etc... (review here) and that requires a Bluetooth DUN connection via your cell phone, to reach the internet... this is the part that does not work well with iPhones according to the MB.

Oct 28, 2011 12:01 PM in response to LuisFernandoGzz

What MBZ told you is dead wrong, Luis Fernando.

I'm an iOS developer and went through all the betas of iOS 5 before the GM was released on October 12. Apps that connect with the car needed an update as of iOS 5 beta 5 and on, and BMW updated their Connected app quickly and efficiently. [Pandora, on the other hand, has yet to release an update that works. I was in touch with them when it broke with beta 5 and they had no idea when a fix would be released. That was about three months ago. They did not respond to my last two emails and have yet to release and update – bizarre and shoes they're inept and clueless.]

By the way, I no longer have a Mercedes; I got rid of my 2009 C300 Sport after less than two years because I cound not stand the car or the idiotic dealers. I went back to BMW – bought my fifth one in July, an amazing 2012 128i coupe. The iPhone is the highest prioity with BMW and the integration is fluid, effortless and stellar, for all BMWs manufactured from March, 2011 onwards (mine was assembled in Germany in May).

iOS 5 on the iPhone 4 works perfectly with the system, as it did on iOS 4 previously. Reagrding BT 4.0, it is backward compatible so that's not an issue with anything.

Since I no longer own a MBZ and never will again, my reponse may not be that helpful, but I will say that the problems expeienced with MBZ in this post and many others have nothing to do with Apple – they've done everything correctly and perfectly. The issue is with MBZ being arrogant, ill-informed and not keeping remotely current.

Re the post about getting a BlackBerry instead of an iPhone? Don't even consider it. I have both – the BB is for work and was company-issued, I would never buy one, esp. now since RIM is in a corporate death spiral. Functionalty is nothing like the iPhone in every respect.

Buy a BMW next time – every iota of MBZ nonsense will evaoprate instantly.

Cheers and good luck!
