What am I missing here? My iPhone 4S with iOS 5 pairs perfectly with the Comand Online of my 2012 C Class Estate. I can call, receive calls and work with my contacts directly without importing anything as I did with the old 2G with 3.1.3, and even listen the iPhone's music through bluetooth. The only thing that doesn't work is the internet browsing with the built in display but what is the advantage of doing that through the Comand and not directly with the iPhone? After all, Comand Online stops working when the car starts to move ...

Trinity

Your C Class is able ti show you you SMS messages on the Command unit as they arrive. Its also able to display weather, local restaurants and I presume more as they developmore apps for it, bu it is unable to eork with th iPhone because it has no Bluetooth Dial Up Networking profile, which was the presecessor to Internet tethering. MB shlod update their reseaech to offer plain WiFi connectivity, and its also my opinion that Apple should offer a Bluetooth DUN profile which they currently do not.

Simple voice and calling features work just fine... Its a small detail but its amazing they dont work well together.

This is a general query to everyone. I have an E-Class Convertible (2010) so teh Command is an old version ie not "on line". My problem is that when I connect my iPhone the media interface insists on playing the very first song in my library, regardless of what was plauing before. Now this does not happen all teh time but I cannot for the life of me isolate the reason. Or is it just random? Any insights would be helpful.

Yep, they are behind the times. Perhpas it's always been that way: BMW as the hungry newcommer, always on the edge with the new inovations (even after 60 years 😀 ). People are screaming bloody murder on the Benz forums about Command. Also, MB philospphy is fundemenatly different than BMW.

The cars are very different, and the way they adjust to new tech is diferent. The sales staff, and delarships are different: Yet at the same time they are sort of brother/sister competitors, and quintesentially German. The argumant goes on and on, and the funny thing is, so many people that have owned a Benz have at one time, also owned a BMW (or vice versa).

It would be nice to have internet on Command, and incorporate Siri. That would be very cool indeed.

BTW, I test drove the i128, and it's a GREAT car. I was actually suprised by it. It was much more sporty than the 3 series which I guess I should have expected. Trememdous acceleration. For certain people, a screaming deal, and if I was in that market i would be in seventh heaven.

enjoy 🙂

I took delivery of a C220 a few days ago. Everything but the Online feature in COMAND works fine with my iPhone 4 on iOS 5. Like Trinity, I don't see what the big deal is. I tend to look out of the window for the weather and if I want to search for something I use the phone like I've always done. As long as I can make/receive calls and play my music over Bluetooth, both of which work seamlessly, I'm happy.

You are judging a car based on the fact that it won't connect to the Internet? What about about how it DRIVES, how COMFORTABLE it is, the safety features that will keep you ALIVE in a crash, economy that will save you MONEY. In my opinion MB is far superior to a BMW and the fact I can't get the car to connect to the Internet doesn't alter that.

Get a grip. Go buy a cheap mobile (I have an old Sony that has DUN) with a data SIM and leave it in the car.

I received my C180 a few days ago. Iphone 4S IOS 5.0.1 connects perfectly with with Comand Online via Bluetooth - inbound and outgoing calls are not an issue at all. I have also the Media Connector. Overall everything is fine although a few things come as a surprise:

* Connected on Media connector: not all covers are being transferred. Moreover I have the strong suspicion it takes the covers from Gracenote on the harddrive of the MB. Some covers shown are not the ones on my Iphone. Bummer.

* SMS-messages are not transferred to the MB. Apple doesn't support the format

* I wasn't able yet to connect my phone to surf via the MB. Data transfer not supported by the phone

* Tested Siri but it's not conclusive yet for non-english countries (other language messages)

To Attaboy: you need to go to the menu within the media center (where music plays) and choose mix list (bottom left). Mix even works better then the shuffle on the Iphone itself.

Mercedes next generation of bluetooth technology is scheduled to come out this summer. My E350 has some of the basic features which allows me to answer my phone stream Pandora and iTunes. I have an iPhone version 5.0.1 and the MAP (Message Access Profile) has not been installed by Apple.

The new technology offered by Mercedes will allow approved applications from your smartphone to show up on your display screen in your car. You would then be able to use the controller in your controller in your car manipulate and show them on your car display. Look up Telematics to find out more. Its in their October 2012 Newsletter. We all want to be able to listen to our text messages in the car if possible, in a parked position of course.

Nothing but problems with the COMAND system in my 2011 E350, too. This was my first and will be my last Mercedes product, since they refuse to even acknowledge let alone propose any solution for what are basic issues. The BlueTooth integration is limited and weak, meaning many popular phones including the iPhone 4 and many BlackBerry models just don't connect reliably. Even when they do connect, everyone tells me that the sound on the far end of my call through the system sounds terrible, with delays, echos, and noise no matter the various settings on every part. The POI data in the navigation system is ridiculous; just try searching for the Home Depot or other major common business nearest your location and laugh/cry when the system finds and suggests locations thousands of miles from your location--and it is most assuredly NOT the Navionics data as can easily be verified through Navionics. For music, play a classical or jazz CD with no breaks in the sounds between track numbers and marvel at how the COMAND system inserts its own silences over the music. And PCMCIA interface, what century is THAT from--ever heard of CF and SD cards (without stupid adapters)???

All in all, the COMAND system is a shoddy embarrassment, the dealrs helpless, and no one at Mercedes standing up for this. I'm done. Next will be an Audi, a BMW, or a Buick, Chrysler, Kia .... Do they still make Yugo's, as even those must have a better system that this!

Any news on DUN available for iOS ?

Seems, that Android has an App calles BlueDUN, which makes it possible, to connect to MB Comand Online.

Hello Apple?

I thought you have a "strategic partnership" with Mercedes ?!?

How come, that two brand new products don't work with each other, just because of a stupid protocol and a very stupid lack of support for that protocol?

I hope, that some developers come up with an app, that enables DUN on iOS 5. I am willing to pay lots of money for such an app!!!

I guess, this is all just because of Steve Jobs´ death. This wouldn't have happend, if he was still in charge. He would never allow such a faulty product to be sold to loyal Apple customers, who only expect and accept the best.

Is Apple going down, Mr. Cook, or WILL YOU COME UP WITH A DUN-UPDATE 4 iOS?

Please ....

May 11, 2012 5:56 AM in response to mercedesmike

So, new update installed, and still NO BLUETOOTH DUN-SUPPORT ?

Why, Mister Cook, Why ?

Is it so hard to come up with an update, that supports this simple protocol?

Ain`t any App-Developers out here, who could find a solution for this problem?

I am even willing to jailbreak my phone, just to make it work with Mercedes Comand Online!!!

I have just spoken with customer services about this and actually found somebody who could understand the difference between PAN and DUN and as we already know this is the case as to why it does not work.It simply doesn't support it although aparently is being rectified so that PAN will be supported, he read an outstanding issue back to me outlining this. Once the update is available he stated it will be a software update (which makes sense) and suggested to keep an eye on www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com although he thought a general notice would go out to dealers with software etc

Fingers crossed its sooner than later

I have just taken delivery of a new CLS 350 Sport and am generally very pleased with it. However, I was astounded when I discovered the CONNECTED PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT DATA COMMUICATION message. When I mentioned this to the dealer they investigated and told me it was a problem with the iPhone rather than a problem with Mercedes. When I pointed out that it works fine in BMWs they said "fair enough" and agreed to contact head office to find out what they intend to do about it. Personally, I think it's apalling that Mercedes have known about this shortcoming for some considerable time, have done nothing about it and don't even include a caveat in any of their literature. What is worse, the dealer staff seem to act as if it's the first they've heard about it!

This is a significant feature of the COMMAND system which smilpy will not work with one of the world's most popular smartphones!

Mercedes - yuo can do better than this (and stop blaming Apple).
