Xcode 4.0.2 install failed with error: "An error occurred while extracting files from the package “DeveloperTools.pkg”

hi,

I purchased Xcode 4.0.2 from AppStore and tried to install it, but a failure occured on install process.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J4138), MacBook Pro (15-inch early 2011).

There's message in /var/log/install.log.

I removed "Install Xcode" and re-download it (at least three times),

but the same error occured.

I've checked known issue (http://developer.apple.com/support/xcode/).

Yes, I'm using System in Japanese locale.

But log message seems to be different, so it's not the case (I think).

Any idea?

My guess is that it was the re-install. I originally downloaded the installer from the app store and when deleting it removed all related files with app sweeper and emptied the trash. Now AFAIK xcode has not been updated since being released through the app store. So I download a fresh copy and installed with no problems.

Xcode freshly downloaded from App store on Lion. I even redownloaded the installer: same error...

did anyone resolve it?

pls disregard my previous post. I am trying to install Xcode 4.1, not 4.0.2. The edit button disappeared though.

I too had the same install.log details as Balk; it too was Lion, Xcode 4.1, downloaded this morning fresh from AppStore.

I had earlier verified it wasn't because I needed to add 'root ALL=(ALL) ALL to visudo'; it occurred to me the problem was to do with the preinstall script, and perhaps I could circumvent the problem.

Applications -> right-click on 'install XCode' -> Show Contents -> Contents -> resources -> double-click on Xcode.mpkg

Installation completed without a hitch.

All the tipps listed here do not help. It always ends with an error and point me to install.log:

Hi dude, did you fix it? I'm having the same problem and I can't figure out what the **** is going on, in my case the log says:

I have deleted the installer and am re-downloading it now. I cannot downgrade to Snow Leopard because the Apple Store installed some firmware on my imac when the 1TB harddrive failed that is incompatible with Snow Leopard.

Deleting the "Install XCode" app from Launchpad, and then re-downloading it from the app store fixed the problem.
