What happens to iWeb when there's no Mobile Me?

I was disappointed to learn that Apple will turn off Mobile Me next year. I'm a teacher and I liked using iWeb to create a small website for my classes (Homework, Activities,etc.). It was easy and the pages looked OK to me. I haven renewed my Mobile Me subscription when I bought a new iMac in January. Now I have to go through a bunch s__t to get a refund.

I am not interested in iClouds, iPhones, iPads, etc. I just don't want all the extra stuff. I just liked having an easy to post a website and create decent looking webpages.

You have to pay for iCloud, right? If I don't use and don't intend to use any iOS devices, what good is iCloud? Does it have any value?

What happens to my iDisk after June 30, 2012? Does it disappear?

Will iWeb be killed as well? I am told that you can publish webpages with iWeb to 3rd party sites, but if the application is no longer supported, it won't be long before it won't work correctly.

Are there any applications as good as and EASY as iWeb to use?

No, I never made tutorials showing how to switch from iweb to Sandvox. It was remarkably easy, as I just copy and pasted old site to new.

Time is moving along, as is software. I still like Sandvox, and have the www.humanrightscity.com site up, but have noticed that Weebly, especially the pro version with DivTag templates, makes really nice sites, with columns if you wish.

Like a moth dancing around a flame, this low income person is waiting for the final word from Adobe on Muse. It is really expensive but can do a lot.

And Apple just filed for patents that seem to indicate they haven't given up on software that creates beautiful pages. But anyone who has been holding his/her breath waiting for Apple to give us a clue as to their direction, other than for Mobileme, has turned blue a long time ago.

Take a look at Weebly if you want columns, and take a peek at DivTag templates. They cost but have a lot.

Thanks for your reply Hugh. The compnay that hosts my website (Bluehost) offers both Weebly and Wordpress. I have never heard of Muse. I know someone who is willing to teach me Wordpress for $20 and hour, which I am prehaps gonna do. To be frank, however, Wordpress scares me. It seems to be buggy and very difficult to learn.

What I was trying to say is iWeb douse not relay on MobilMe so asomeing you are using iWeb to make one's website all ready and one is NOT hosted at MobileMe then there is no need to switch from iWeb and lose some of the things the persion I was responding to liked. Of couse the new OS may not support iWeb and there for it will not fuction on the new OS but it will not stop working on the older OS < (Snow Leopard) just becouse MobilMe Stops.

Meney of us who have a problem with the Stoping of MobilMe and moving to iCloud have it becouse we can not upgrade to Lion (For me it's becouse my MacBook Pro 1.8Ghz 15" will not run Lion) and there for the idear that any newer OS will not run iWeb is a mute point.

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.

On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:

◼ Password protection

◼ Blog and photo comments

◼ Blog search

◼ Hit counter

◼ MobileMe Gallery

Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.

All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.

There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

The answer to your question is that NOTHING will happen to iWeb when there is no MobileMe - iWeb will still be there as a functioning application on your desktop and you and your friend will still be able to use it to keep your homeless shelter website updated.

Apple does not sell iWeb any longer and no longer supports it, but if you have it as an application, you can still use it - iWeb will work under Snow Leopard and it still works if you upgrade to Lion and apparently it will still work with the next OS Mountain Lion, so as long as you have it use it - iWeb and MobileMe have never depended on each other and whether or not you published to MobileMe that has never affected iWeb as you always have the alternative to publish to another server anyway using iWeb, so the two were never linked.

As for MobileMe, it will be discontinued at the end of June this year, so if you don't have alternative hosting you need to look at getting it now along with registering a domain name if you don't already have one. All you then do is tranfer the site to your new server where your domain name is.

That is the answer to your question, that nothing will happen to iWeb once MobileMe has gone - you can continue to use it to update and maintain your websites.

Also, did you even look at the first page of this post? If not go back and look at it as you'll find that your question has been answered there and is exaclty the same as my own reply - and you could always search this forum first before posting - your question is asked and answered on an almost daily basis in these forums.

Danielformatl Ethmoid others and me have given the answer. Simply;

iWeb as a program will still work.

Any site on MobileMe will disappear.

Any site on iWeb on MobileMe can be moved to diffint host using the FTP settings on iWeb.

Any fuction of a site that relayes on MobileMe must be changed/replased to work on another host, as per Old Toad's and others instctions.
