What happens to iWeb when there's no Mobile Me?

I was disappointed to learn that Apple will turn off Mobile Me next year. I'm a teacher and I liked using iWeb to create a small website for my classes (Homework, Activities,etc.). It was easy and the pages looked OK to me. I haven renewed my Mobile Me subscription when I bought a new iMac in January. Now I have to go through a bunch s__t to get a refund.

I am not interested in iClouds, iPhones, iPads, etc. I just don't want all the extra stuff. I just liked having an easy to post a website and create decent looking webpages.

You have to pay for iCloud, right? If I don't use and don't intend to use any iOS devices, what good is iCloud? Does it have any value?

What happens to my iDisk after June 30, 2012? Does it disappear?

Will iWeb be killed as well? I am told that you can publish webpages with iWeb to 3rd party sites, but if the application is no longer supported, it won't be long before it won't work correctly.

Are there any applications as good as and EASY as iWeb to use?

There was no disrespect intended. But you'd be surprised how many users here don't know about the spell checker. In the interest of expediency I often assume the poster doesn't know and offer the info. I just assumed that if you saw the many offerings you'd be able to recognize the correct one. Many spell checks only offer one, maybe two options. My apologies.

Secound some background; I run 3 website and have installed and run in the past over 15 all with diffent domains some have been hosted by 3rd party hosting companeys and some I have hosted on my computers/servers in my office and 2 are at a computer senter I run.

To answer Roddy; Domain names to IP addresses? you CAN have multiple domain names on one IP.

Do you need a single IP for one Domain? this is much more complex and is best left for a diffient forum (e-mail me if you need to know more)

Each website need's one Domain, sub-Domain or sub-part of a Domain (www.domain.com, sub-domain.domain.com or www.domain.com/sub-part).

Example:

a joomla (Content managment system (CMS)) http://www.tompkins-macqueen.com/Joomla/

a iWeb site http://www.tompkins-macqueen.com/Site-2/Welcome.html

Sandvox (a iWeb altinatave) http://www.holidayaegina.com/

I did have http://photo.tompkins-macqueen.com but that site is down for a re-think

All of these sites are hosted on one account and one IP address the Hosting company in the case "godaddy" sorts out the bandwith and servers.

each site can have as many pages as you want.

The better question is dose the hosting company support the fuctions that you use in iWeb (see next post)

iWeb support the problem is with some of the Widgets. "MobilMe Gallery" being the ovice one that will no longer (when mailbileme stops) work Some people have taled about a Apple "Hit Counter" and perhaps the "Countdown" widget not working.

Most web hosts offer "PHP" (a proghramming languge DON"T PANIC you don't need to know programming to use this) and this gives you access to lot's on add ins/Widgets to your website.

The key is moving things like Gallerys for the Widgets/mobileme me way of doing things to standare website ways. How? First store your photo's in iPhoto or Aperture(or some other way of keeping your photo's orginized (i don't know about iCloud) then in iWeb make new page and chouse "Photos" or "My Albums" you can poplat these pages direct from iPhoto and Aperture. There are other was like "picasa" that have plugins for iPhoto and Aperture and can be liked to from your website.

Moving on, I have found hostting companys that are specifically for MAC but thay seem more expencive than others and I am not shoure that there are any advarntages to these.

Well I hope that gave some pointers

A good start point

Then take a look at this tutorial: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb. With one domain name you can have multiple websites. I have one domain name, oldtoad.net, and multiple websites with the following URL:

oldtoad.net/Demo_1

oldtoad.net/Demo_2

oldtoad.net/Demo_3

oldtoad.net/Demo_4

oldtoad.net/HelperSite

oldtoad.net/HelperSite2.

Or you can use subdomains and have the url to be like this:

Demo_1/oldtoad.net

Demo_2/oldtoad.net

etc.
