It is unlikely that a future exists as iCloud, based on what I saw is tied to iOS5.
Since the 3G does not get iOS5, there is no future for it.
Time to upgrade that 3 year old device. 😉
Oh I forgot, mobileme acc is active for Find My Phone, yes.
That´s a good one.. so I can still use this feature. So the last missing piece is the unique id for the calender.
Found this — Your unique iCloud ID can be found in Lion at ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/[iCloud Account ID]/Configuration.plist
I´ve found the same article. My biggest problem is, that I´ve got no Mac at home. Just my iPad/iPhone... 🙂
just want to clarify. If I set up iCloud on my iMac, but not my 3G iPhone, I will still have access to MobileMe on my 3G iPhone until June 20, 2012?
Many thanks for your help. Now it´s working and the best thing I do not need and unique id stuff.
My biggest problem was, that my mobileme account was still installed on my 3G. It just provided find my iphone but after removing it, I was able to p01-caldav.icloud.com as a calendaring server and p01-contacts.icloud.com as a carddav server. I`ve just entered this as server without any https or port, uniqueid stuff. And now it´s just working.
It syncs with iCloud and it even looks like it´s pushing the stuff to the device. But maybe I am wrong. The most important part is, I´ve got my calendaring and contacts synced between all my apple devices.
So many thanks for your support.
I tested it last night as well on contacts and was successful. BTW. The push capability works as well. I could sync back and forth between my MAC, iPad and IPhone 3G. All is well.
Hi, for me it did not work. The iPhone 3G changes the server names from p01-xxx to p03-xxx after saving. But no contacts nor calendars are coming in.
Can I sync with Google? How do I get the data into Google with iCloud? It says, that I cant use iCloud and Google the same time.
Thanks.
Hi - I've read through this whole thread but I'm still a bit confused, forgive me. My basic situation is as follows:
I have a Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard) and iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1), which can't use iCloud -- but a new Macbook Air (Lion) and iPad 2 (ios 5) which can use iCloud. (Right?)
I will probably get a new iPhone 4s (when unlocked version is released), but in the meantime, what's the best way to sync my iCal and Contacts across the 4 devices? (I don't really care about Mail because it's all IMAP and Exchange, and has been working fine that way on both the iPad and iPhone)
For instance, with Contacts -- could I just use my iPad to keep contacts synced between my MBP and MBA, and then manually sync the iPhone with either of them? Should I try the method of putting my Address Book database in my Dropbox to sync between both laptops? Thanks for any advice --
Full details:
1) Macbook Pro (from early 2010), currently at most recent version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
2) Macbook Air (Oct 2011), Mac OS Lion, 10.7.2 - I am in the process of moving all my data onto it, and transitioning to use the Air most of the time
3) iPhone 3G from early 2009, currently at iOS version 4.2.1, that I have been using with my previous MBP, syncing iCal and Address Book via the iTunes manual sync, and using Mail through Gmail and Exchange (IMAP)
4) iPad 2 from mid-2011, which I just updated to iOS 5, and which I had previously been using with the MBP, syncing iCal and Address via iTunes manual sync, and using Mail through Gmail and Exchange (IMAP)
Hello. You can't sync iCloud contacts through iTunes. You'll get dublicates in your Address Book in Lion ("iCloud" contacts and "On My Mac" contacts).
I think best way for you — sync Lion and iPad with iCloud, sync iPhone 3G with iCloud through CardDAV (as described before) and also update SL to Lion for iCloud support.
Agree with iXeron. It works.
CalDav solution works. Even for someone (me) with pretty basic skills. Thanks all!
Thanks,
this worked for me, but I had to sync my phone to my mac to get my Contacts back, but the Calendar had already updated over the air. This will work till my 4s arives (lord knows when).
I got the iCal on my Snow Leopard MBP to work. But I can't get the Address Book set up properly at all. I've tried all the p01, p02, p03, etc servers. Can anyone help me out???
Otherwise, I'm running an iPhone 4S and an iPad with iCloud without any probems.
I used the settings mentioned earlier on my iPhone 3G IOS 4.2.1. The calendars were imported from iCloud but not the contacts. I also made changes both on the iPhone and the iCloud web site to check the sync. It seems like sync is not working in iCal or Address Book.
