It is unlikely that a future exists as iCloud, based on what I saw is tied to iOS5.
Since the 3G does not get iOS5, there is no future for it.
Time to upgrade that 3 year old device. 😉
I get Calendar and Contacts data via iCloud on MacBook Pro (Lion) and iPad2 (OS5). Needed to have same info on old 3G iPhone. As helpful as all these previous solutions are, I find issue is simply solved by syncing calendar and contacts data via iTunes, cable or wirelessly. Perhaps I'm being too simplistic, but until my 3G totally fails and needs replacing, this is good for me.
Fantastic! The solution given by kyle67 allowed me to sync my contacts!
Works fine here on iPhone 3G with iOS 4.2.1 with this server:
https://p02-contacts.icloud.com:443/[uniqueid]/carddavhome
where [uniqueid] is the same as used with CalDAV. It sync both ways.
My 3G iPhone is no longer getting messages from my MobileMe account, and I've tried the suggestions included here. While I am able to get contacts and calendar thanks to suggestions here, I'm still not getting mail. I followed all the steps listed, but get an error message "cannot connect using ssl. Do you want to try setting up the account without ssl?". I gave stmp.me.com as the outgoing server host name. What can I do to fix this?
Many thanks!!
Try setting incoming server to p02-imap.mail.me.com (SSL on with port 993) and outgoing server p02-smtp.mail.me.com (SSL on with port 587). Both require your iCloud credentials.
Hi Chantal - I tried those changes (it didn't ask me to re-enter credentials though) but it is still giving me the same error message.
I was finally able to get incoming mail from my iCloud account on my 3G iPhone, but I still get an error message when I try to send mail. I've tried every stmp address and portal combination suggested on this forum, and wonder what else I should try. Thank you!
In your outgoing mail server are you using iCloud SMTP Server with SSL ON, Authentication = Apple Token and Server Port 587?
In my outgoing mail server I am using stmp.mail.me.com, SSL is on, authentication is password checked (other options are MD5 challenge-response; NTLM; HTTP MD5 Digest) and server port 587. I also tried using p03-stmp.me.com, but that has not worked either
Deggie, I tried it again, rebooted and your suggestion is working - I can send and receive mail now! Thank you so much!!!
You're welcome, have fun emailing.
hello (sorry from bad engish)
if I only sync with USB cable (ical and adressbook, not mail)(never sync with wifi), can I install the software on the iMac and keep my MM settings on 3G?
thanks this worked here
It's not working. I'm trying to make it work. Still trying to find solution. I don't want to buy a new iPhone.
@Poupounette
What is it that's not working ?
iCal sync ?
Address Book sync ?
eMailing ?
And what did you already try to get things working ?
It's not a problem if people just say "this works"...
...but if "It's NOT working" you have to be more specific to enable others to help you...
