Wonderful scheme.

Are you aware that even in countries like France there are areas without any kind of access to Internet?

To be the AW6 successor, iWork MUST integrate a TRUE DB, not a list organizer !

I don't understand.

Why burn a dvd when the datas may be stored on a reusable media.

The memory stick is one of them as well as a re-writable dvd or a HD.

Mostly because single layer DVD's are very cheap & can't accidentally be written to once burned. Rewritable DVD's take somewhat longer to burn (& in my experience longer to boot from) so if I wanted to make a couple of copies so I could upgrade several Macs at once, that would be my preferred optical disc choice.

DVD is a wonderful formula for macbook air users 😟

These machine have no DVD unit but they have an USB connector so the preferred media for these machines isn't the DVD.

Do you know that some memory stick devices may me locked to protect against erasing ?

If I remember well, Apple deliver at least one of their products on such media.

Accessing the mac App Store requires 10.6.7.

What for machines which are running 10.4 or 10.5 ?

You're stirring up the pot here, for no reason. Apple has ONLY announced how 6.7 users would be able to upgrade on day one. How about we wait and see what options are available to those w/o high speed access and earlier versions of OSX before we make comments that they won't help you out.

And to believe that Apple does not have an option to accept your money because you don't have high speed network or an older version of OSX is a stretch, in my opinion.

Apple indicated during their announcements that Lion will be available form the App Store in July, but they never really made any statement that there would never be a physical distribution.

Not making a physical distribution (perhaps at a higher cost) would be a problem for Apple. Many corporate and government customers are going to need physical media, and only about 1/2 of Apple's customers have high-speed internet with bandwidth caps lower than the 4G download.

What this exercise is, however, is a test of using the App Store for mass distribution of huge files. We're talking about 4G per-machine, and perhaps 80% of everyone that can download it will, and most of them within the first few days. A million people in the first day -- that would be 4 exabytes of bandwidth. If their data-centers don't groan, the rest of the Internet surely will.

There will be OS X Lion on CD, or only in the Mac Store?
