Duplicate songs on iPhone after iCloud download

After iCloud was introduced, I did this:

  • bought an album on iTunes via my Mac
  • downloaded the album to my iPhone via the iCloud service in the iPhone Music Store
  • Synced my iPhone with my Mac.

Now that new album is on my iPhone twice! Well, the album shows up once, but each song is in there 2 times.

If I un-check the album in iTunes and sync, it no longer shows as doubled, but now those songs won't play when I'm playing the album in iTunes (since iTunes skips un-checked songs).

How do I get the iCloud-downloaded songs OFF my iPhone??

iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

I have the same problem when moving songs from my PC onto my ipad2 via the 'cloud' - very bizarre, apple need to address the error with the particular file structure they are using. Hopefully soon - IOS5 is great, if a little buggy. Lets hope apple in their quest for world domination are not becoming too corporate/Microsoft-ish releasing stuff before it hasa been properly and exhaustively tested.

Hi

I just decided to start syncing my iphone with icloud rather than with my PC , but still need to sync with my PC for Calendars etc.

I found that so far two of my albums have been duplicated on my iphone , these where two of my most recent purchases from itunes.

what I did to resolve this was when you have your phone attached to the PC click on your device and then go into music .

Select to sync music by selected album, artists, albums and genres.

in albums tick all the albums apart from the ones that have been duplicated (i.e leave the box unticked) and then hit sync this will remove the duplicated tracks from your phone.

This worked for me.

I've not seen this mentioned in this duplicate song thread, but when I buy a movie soundtrack, which often includes songs from various artists, it duplicates the same songs from the individual artists' albums which are now on my iPhone as well as the soundtrack.

It is all very frustrating, especially when I get that goofy, blank stare from the staff at the Apple Store. I'm told it "shouldn't" do that.... but them they notice the hundreds of comments on the forum.

Will Apple even acknowledge this as an issue???

Hi billp16

Think this is more an issue with itunes than icloud , there is probably a thread on this elsewhere as I have also had this issue.

Easiest way to resolve is to ensure that the soundtrack is

a. setup as a compilation (go into get info then tick part of a compilation)

and/or

b. add the same album artist to all the tracks

you will then need to re-sync uncheck the album and sync to remove it , then recheck it to sync it back then hopefully you should only have one copy.

To add to my previous post if you add further content to your itunes libary that isn't downloaded from itunes ensure you tick the album to sync or it wouldn't be added to your iphone if you selected to sync with icloud.

I have a different issue. I pre orderd Bruce Springsteen's album Wrecking Ball. It downloaded to my iphone 4. When I plugged my iphone into my PC, it downloaded again to my PC. So now I have two copies of every song on the album except the first 2 and the Itunes LP liner notes. Only one copy of each song is on my phone. Can I delete the duplicate copies out of itunes?

I had this issue after signing up for iCloud match. Some albums that I had purchased on my iPhone but automatically downloaded to my Computer, were getting duplicated in the cloud. So in my library on my phone it would show 1 physical downloaded file and 1 that was availible to download from the iCloud. ANNOYING.

HERE"S MY FIX

The solution for me was to completely delete the album from my computer library BUT KEEP THE FILES. This deletes the extra copy of the album on the iCloud. THEN re-import those files back into your iTunes library. From here on out...if you should actually buy a hard copy CD or download it in "some other fashion".... highlight only the songs that you want to upload or match to the iCloud. right click and choose upload to iCloud. Unless you have to upload a massive amount of media... manually uploading shouldn't be that frequent of any occurance or that huge of a bother.

Hope that works for everyone.

Following RehanB instructions seemed to be the fastest resolution to this problem. The fix: On my iPhone go to "Settings"- General - Usage - Music, "Edit" and Delete all music. Sync with iTunes and the reload deletes the duplicate songs.

One problem I ran into is one song out of 85 did not download to the phone. The message on iMac said file could not copy because it could not be converted. This is a bummer because it is a rare album with more rare of a song.

Please post if there is a fix for this part of the original duplicate solution.

Thank you,

Just a tought after reading this thread (all feel free to chime in).

Read this help advice from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1417

Seems to me the solution they recommend there prevents future dups from occuring.

Presuming that's true..... could you not delete the music on your device then re-install after you've initiated Apple's recommended settings and then all your dupes would be gone?

Just thinking out loud.
