iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Wow. I have the super armor case for my ipad and I just dropped it and the screen when red and crazy. I googled and found this thread. I wacked it a few times and it went back to normal. Thank you so much for the post and help!!!!! I was freaking out and now I can rest easy. ..

Out of frustration with the Apple genius who told me to buy a new iPad plus a replacement plan, I went home swearing that I would not buy another iPad again. I Googled iPad display problems and found this thread. I dropped the iPad face up, in it's cover, about 8 inches off the table, twice and it worked like a charm. A thousand thank yous would not be enough for what your post did for me.

Amazing! our two year old is constantly dropping our ipad. When the screen went red we thought the iPad finally gave up. Slapped it once, didn't work so tapped the side it was dropped on on the kitchen bench and all back to normal. Time for a shock prof case I think. As far as letting our kids use our iPad, the preschool apps are incredible. Such a brilliant tool and resource for kids. The iPad certainly has enhanced our daughters world of knowledge.

When I read this I thought: " Yeah right, I'll be sitting here on the sofa, from which my iPad fell on the floor, tapping it lightly but firmly on it's back ". I did though. After several attempts still a red glow over the display. Shut it off and thought to have a new screen put in. Next morning turned it on, still red. Got a cup of coffee, dropped the iPad on its back on the wooden table, as a last attempt, nothing. Went to get a chair sat down, grabbed iPad and perfect image ! Glow gone !!!

mine turned all blue and yellow and green, then the screen multiplied into little lines repeating the same image kindof like a more organized version of the flurries on a TV. i slapped over 100 times (hopefully i didn't break it even more), but i did not work. i turned off the ipad then turned it back on. it is now almost back to normal, but is still all fuzzy-ish and multiplied

This totally worked for me. My daughter dropped my iPad 2 and it went red then green and it could not display black. It took about ten firm taps to find the right spot and it is fixed. I have no idea how long this will last but this is great since I was hoping to use it on a long trip this weekend. Thanks to everyone!

Worked a charm for me also. Just dropped my ipad 2 and it can up with red & blue colours. After checking the price for replacing the screen/getting it fixed, I came across your post. Gave it a few solid taps in different spots on the back and it worked!

Jim...awesome. I whacked mine really hard 4-5 times and the bottom part of the ipad went back to normal but the top was red still. Tapped (hit) the top part hard and the whole thing went red and then gave it a really hard whack 2 more times...ta da...whole thing is back to normal. Just like the old Boob Tubes😉

It worked! I am extremely dubious of solutions that involve hitting or dropping devices, emersing them in salt, sticking them in the freezer, etc. But a series of Google searches showed that Jim71's solution worked for a number of people -- or that other people reported having luck with the same technique. A few smart whacks on the back (not too hard!) resolved the issue -- at least for now. The device is still under warranty/AppleCare, so I plan to bring it to Apple for a checkup, but at least the immediate issue is resolved, and we can make sure we back up the iPad's contents. Thanks for posting this unconventional fix!

Thank you so much! Our youngest dropped my wife's Ipad a foot from the floor, and it went red. My wfe didnt react, was in fact super calm. Next day I find this forum, gave it a good couple of slaps, and it worked! Thanks again!

I am a teacher and have the schools iPad on loan. My son dropped it just a couple inches and it went red! I panicked and when we found this post we tried the tapping and it worked! Thank goodness! On a teachers salary I was not looking forward to having to buy it from the school or replace the screen!

Mine needed more than a few slaps - I started to think I wasn't one of the lucky ones when my screen suddenly blinked back on!! I was totally rapt! Thank goodness! I ended up having to slap it reasonably hard - I figured I had nothing to lose as if I took it to an apple store I'd just have to replace it! Thanks so much!

Never dropped mine. It just started to go crazy and then froze up and screen turned black. I am lost without my ipad. I tried slapping it on the back to no avail. Can anyone else out there help me with a suggestion? I hate to have to spend a fortune to fix it. I did nothing wrong, it just froze up and turned black.
