iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Did you try to restart? If your unsure how...

To restart iPad, first turn iPad off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPad will turn off after a few moments.

Next, turn iPad on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

if it still doesn't work try to reset it...

To reset iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Thanks for trying but NO that did not work. First of all, when I try to turn on, nothing happens so there is no slider to turn off. Secondly, when I try to restart, the apple appears and then it goes on for a second and then turns black so I can't even go to settings.

Yes this method worked. Basically, my mom was watching on the family iPad and suddenly I kicked in my sleep and the iPad fell down. Once my mom went to check if there's any scratches or cracks, the screen went red. We didn't know what to do. So, I searched up what to do when the iPad screen goes red and I went to this page. As some of the repliers said, just hit the back of the device and keep checking up on it. My mom hit it very gently so I came in and hit more times and more firmly. Then when we checked the screen, it was back to normal. Thanks to everyone who recommended this method. I thought that I was toast because my dad got very mad at me. Thank you!

OMG!!!!! I just can't believe it worked

the first time the backgroung went red it first on itself! after a couple of hours the sreen was back to normal! and then it happened again. this time it took a little longer but it fixed itself. 3rd time it happened again but It spent days like this! I thought again that it was going to fixed itself but it never did! 5 long awful days! then I decided to check online and then I saw your post!!! AMAZING

I started taping and taping but nothing happened! I was about to give up! then I gave it two good stap on the back and it was back to normal! I know it's just an IPad but i've never been happier!!!! THANK UUUUUU

I had my doubts. But I locked the screen rotation and gave it a couple of whacks and the screen returned to normal from its psychedelic colour scheme. I had a protective case on and it didn't drop more than a foot but it must have been just the right angle to screw the screen up. Thanks for this low tech but effective help!

Help, I had my ipad on my table and then left the room, I came back and it was on the floor.

Now it's red and has blue fuzzy lines.

I've watched all the Youtube videos and read all the comments.

I have tried tapping it, hamering it, and i've dropeed it on my bed, carpet, tiles,wood, and table but it just wont turn back to normal.

Is there anything else i can do?

Make sure you lock the screen rotation before you slap it. Word of caution to everyone, I have noticed since the first time this happened my screen gets messed up at the slightest jarring now. The spanking has consistently brought it back but it can't be a good thing that it's happening more often now. It's like the iPad got a concussion and now it's more prone to get concussions more easily.

OMG! This really worked...my ipad fell down from sofa and the display was not clear...the screen was blinking and not clear...i saw yourtrick and decided to tap at the back...first the display color was green then i tapped 3-4 times then it changed to red then again i tapped 5 times and to my surprise i got the clear display...thanks a lot Jim...ur trick really worked..thank you so much.. 🙂

Who ever discovered this remedy of a slep on the back desreves a slap on the back! No one in the family admitted to traumatising my iPad but nevertheless the screen had turned red with strange fuzzy blotches. Two not so heavy slaps on the back and all was well again. The question is will the fix last?

I took a light hammer to tapping the back of the Ipad, no luck. The I turned the Ipad in portrait with the reset button on top. Facing the screen I tapped the Ipad on top of the frame and about 1 inch to the right of the reset button. Presto the screen turned from red to black. Just saved $599 +tax. Merry Christmas. BTW it was my wife's idea, I can't take the credit.

I too dropped my iPad today and had the bright green/red contrast on screen. When I came hear and heard about smacking my iPad on the back, my heart sank. The thought of whacking a $700 iPad2 terrified me. But then again so did the thought of a non functioning, uninsured iPad. The first couple times I smacked it, nothing happened. Then I took it out of the unprotective protective case and gave it a good whack with flat palm. The screen flickered a couple times and then went back to normal :)

I can't believe this worked! It only dropped about 2 feet from the sofa to the floor and the floor is carpeted. I only hit about 5 -7 times and it worked. You are a lifesaver as I use this Ipad 2 more than my laptop!! I never post to any website but I had to post here!!!

It's not working with my ipad. My two babies have dropped it and now it has a blue background I can't solve... I will try again but if this works the 99% of the times, I am afraid that I'm the 1%... LUCKY YOU!!! 😉

Add my thanks as well. Same story: black and red swirls, flashing lines, white appeared turquiose and so on.

I have my iPad 2 with me almost everywhere & truly love it. So much so that it's easy to forget it belongs to my employer. Added anxiety.

Banged it on the carpeted floor many times, probably > 20. And it's back. As if it never happened.

But now I'm worried that there really is something wrong. Has anyone else ever has this only occur once or shall I treat this as a chronic condition, to be managed but not cured?

Oh wow, you guys are a bunch of life savers! Both myself and my girlfriend took turns whacking the back of our iPad2 with no luck. Then we let our 15 month yr old play with it again as it was she that stuffed the colours up in the first place! No dice. Finally my girlfriend dropped it on the edge of a hard wood table. Success! Jubilation ensued! Thanks again guys. We are so happy!
