iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

This worked for me too!!! On crutches and have dropped my ipad twice in the last 2 weeks, onto hardwood floor. Apparently whacking it on the back fixes both messed up color (drop 2) and the ipad won't turn on (drop 1). I am not going to push my luck - not carrying it anymore while on crutches :-)

It worked on my IPad 2 but I had to slap it rather hard and it shut down then would not turn back on. We tried a hotboot holding the home button and the off on button, AND it turned on as good as new.

Thanks for this post, I almsot sent my Ipad 2 to service centre, but after going through several posts in this thread I tried it and found it worked. There is connector around left hand bottom and when I slapped it there, it was normal. However I lost my Back Camera, and front camera was working fine. Thanks. A look at posts on youtube about this is also helpful

I spent 5 mins firmly tapping the back of the ipad thinking nothing would happen but then the screen went back to normal - all the red fuzziness went. Thanks for sharing!!!!

Thank you so much for this I just recently got my iPad back from my grandmother who took it and I've been having it for about three years now and I almost flipped out when I saw the damage that had been done to the screen. However anytime I have trouble with anything I go straight to google and thankfully I looked at this forum because usually I wouldn't look at the apple forums because sometimes they're not as helpful. After I read this I didn't hesitate to slap this thing I because I needed to take my anger out on something before I took it out on someone and what do you know back to normal after one slap on the back ...guess it just needed some motivation :D thank you !!

LOL!!! I too went to an apple store with the same problem. I was told it would cost $299.00 to fix, that didn't make sense cause for a $150.00 more I can buy a new one. This morning I searched for a solution in the iPad forum and read comments to give it a few taps and thought "what the heck." After three taps it went from a fuzzy red to a motionless light blue outline and was surprised of the improvement! I gave it three more slaps/taps and back to NEW!!! it worked for me and now my wife is posting it on FB! LOL it worked for us! Good luck to everyone else who will try alternative methods.

My iPad was simply lying in my backpack for a while (probably 2-3 days). I don't think it was dropped, however when I unlocked it the issue was same, the red screen and everything else was working fine. I thought I am gonna loose it as it's pretty old now and is iPad 2. But I read this thread here and tried it immediately. 2 hard but nice pats on the back (it was still in cover) and it worked like everyone described here. Nice advise. Thanks :-)

It's amazing that this post has been helping people for three years! I just dropped my ipad 2 and had the same red screen issues. About four light pats and it was fixed! I don't know about the rest of the posters, but for me it was about like burping a baby. Thanks again!

Dropped my ipad2, which was already running horribly slow and freezing all the time. After the 2ft drop onto a carpeted floor, my Screen turned psychedelic pink&green kalaidescopey. I called apple 2x and was getting ready to pay $249 plus tax and shipping for an out of warranty replacement - all set to send it off tomorrow and pay that price.

Last ditch, I did a hard reset 4x. Nothing worked.

Then I googled "iPad green screen" and found these posts. Slapped the iPad, nada. Slapped it silly 20x. Nada.

Decided to rap it firmly on it's edge, against a mat, which is where it dropped the first time.

Miracle omg, it reset to perfect blue. And, even bigger joy, all the freezing and buggy slowness is completely gone.

These posts just saved me $300!

Thank you so much guys! Most especially to you jim!! I was a little bit frustrated when my iPad ws dropped and turned into rainbow screen but when I saw this forum I did what was been mentioned here. To my big surprise my iPad functioned well and the screen was back to normal! thank you so much guys!!!

Wow this actually worked! I had this problem although my iPad did not drop, I thought I would need to go to the apple store for a replacement as I had already smacked and hit it a few times which did not solve the issue, but when I read on this thread how it had worked for everyone else, I tried one more time and it fixed it! Thank you!

I just followed the advice here, after initial panic when everything turned red and blue on my ipad2 . I tapped it on the edge, smartly, on the table.... And lo and behold, it became normal in a jiffy... Just like a problem child!

Wow, so my iPad did the same thing and I tried tapping firmly on it and I was so excited when I thought it would work but it didn't but then in frustration I was hitting my head to the back of the iPad and then turned it on and the screen had gone back to normal! Thankyou so much for the tip you saved me a trip to the apple store and a very annoying night :)

THANK YOU!! This happened last week and I thought it was because I left my Ipad 2 in the car for 2 hours in sub-freezing weather.I thought it worked again after 1/2 hour because I sat on it a bit and it warmed up ...but after dropping last night on the carpet it happened again. I tried the hard slap on the back of it this morning (before the dropping on the floor),and it worked. Wonderful news since I'm on vacation and the nearest Apple store is 20 miles away....

Thank you! Who would have thought that 3 slaps on the back of an iPad would bring back a dead screen.

My mother dropped hers in Mexico and took it to a computer repair shop who said it couldn't be fixed. I told her to bring it back and Thanks to this post, the dead screen now has my kids smiling picture on it and she doesn't need a new iPad.
