iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

This is amazing. My iPad fell off the bed and the screen colour went horribly fuzzy with a crazy hue. Was about to send it to be repaired when I came across the advice. I too slapped it on the back a few tines with no joy. I then put it back in its case and dropped it from about 20cms onto our wooden kitchen work surface and HEY PRESTO!!!! Back to normal functionality. I am now concerned that there might be a manufacturing fault with the iPad if this is happening with such frequency.

Thanks for the tip. A few increasingly hard smacks on the back fixed my Ipad 2. Apple should acknowledge the problem. Internal cable connector or chip seating? But if they can sell repairs for $250+ I guess they don't see it as a problem.

It really works. Little girl knocked my iPad 2 from my hand at waist height ( I am 5' 8") and the screen turned pink and green. Gave it a tap to the back with a cupped hand and it was bak to normal. I only hope that no permanent damage was sustained from the fall.

Yep my aging iPad died and I was left with a blank screen . I reset it to factory setting wiped it remotely from my iPhone . left it in a drawer frustrated as it dawned on me how much I missed it . Set about contriving and thinking of a way to afford a new one . I read in this thread that dropping it on the floor may fix it . Ridiculous I thought absolutely bonkers . With nothing to loose I thought **** why not . Dropped it flat on the floor from about 2 feet .Jaw still picking itself off of the floor it started working ??? Not advasable on a brand new one and not recommended as it may or may not work . Did for me !!!! Russell 🙂

I was skeptical at first about the trick to fix this but i had nothing to loose!! its either this or 300 bucks!! for fixing!!!

But who knew that slapping on the back could work!!

Another experience of the red distorted screen: tried the various tap and slap techniques but to no avail. As the rest of the ipad2 was working well, backed up then restored. Got back the normal screen with all systems go! Even is a bit snappier. Remarkable as the red screen/wavy patterns/flickering (old TV type noise) really looked terminal! (To practitioners of the darker arts of apple repairs - I also tried the freezer routine but it didn't work either)

My 8 yr. old daughter had previously dropped it from our second floor to our first floor and the screen shattered! (Even with the Griffin Survivor case!!!). That was $200 to replace the screen, I stopped letting her use it for like 2 months then I gave in. That was maybe 8-9 months ago.

Today she comes to me saying: "am there's something wrong with the iPad" She showed me and I FREAKED OUT!!! I asked what happened and she said it fell of her lap to the floor (with CARPET!) and when she picked up, it was like that, of course I didn't believe her, I thought she or her friend might have stepped on it.

So in the middle of my panic attack, I decide to Google it and THANK GOD I find this page... I read about the tapping in the back and try it... nothing... once post said they did it 12 times, I tried again, nothing. Then I really hit it with some umph and POOF! just like that FIXED!

Thank you so so so much to whoever this happened to the first time, figured out that tapping the back fixes it and decided to share this information,,,

WOW! Screen started acting up in my Otterbox, rad this thread and thought I'd give it a try. I took the ipad2 out of the otterbox, two quick slaps to the back and BOOM! Back in business, thanks everyone!

My iPad was dropped and the screen turned red. My wife googled the issue and come to this forum. When I slapped it on the back, it did not solve the problem. When I slapped the back hard with the button on the top, that fixed the issue. Thanks for the tip!

Me too.. It worked! Dropped it a foot, the screen turned blueish and red. Thought the ipad was done for. Found this thread. Locked the screen and gave it to spanks on the back. Done!

I can't believe this actually works, but it did! After seeing it iPad with the red screen, I was afraid to even touch it, let alone hit it. I usually hit things when I'm frustrated, but an expensive piece of equipment such as an iPad, I was skeptical. I figured some taps couldn't make it any worse. I would have already had to get it looked at. A few good taps( I think I knocked on it instead) it sent back to life right before my eyes! Pretty much back to normal! Some parts if the screen don't show right poking at certain things but for the most part it's fully functional and looks good as new!

My son dropped our iPad down the stairs. The screen turned a multi colored trippy looking display. After reading this advice I slapped, smacked and hit the back of the iPad. With no luck. Put it back in its case and dropped it on its back on the floor, no luck again.

Finally dropped it (while in its case) on its corner and sure enough, back to normal!

I'm not the greatest when it comes to taking care of my iPad, that being said. I've dropped it a few times. I've had this issue, it can be easily fixed by holding down the home button and power button for at least 30sec. If this doesn't work then repeat. This has worked for me in the past and my iPad works just fine. By doing this your resetting the LCD. Hope this helps!

It worked!!! I was watching a movie with my sister and was taking my blanket and ipad back to my room when I droped my ipad! I thought that nothing had happened because it has a military case on it. So I made my bed and grabbed my ipad but it wouldn't turn on! So I reset it and sacked the back of it and now it works!!!

Excellent. I slapped it a couple times and it turned colors and I could kind of see some icons. I held it about 2 feet off a carpeted floor and dropped it flat on its back a couple times and it came back to life. Perfect. Thank you so very much.
