iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Thank you! My 5-yr old daughter dropped her mom's iPad and the screen went red. After seeing this thread, my eldest daughter tried slapping it a couple of times and was able to elimante the red screen. however, the lcd turned fuzzy, specially the icons. In desperation, as I was afraid my little princess will get a couple of slapping if it doesn't get fixed before she arrives, I gave the iPad a couple of not-really hard slapping at the back of it myself and VOILA!!!! LCD is working likenew again.

This really works! I pulled my iPad 2 out of my bag, which had been on my back all day. No dropping or anything, but my screen was all messed up, distorted and as if the invert colours were on but all red colours. I turned it on off and didn't work, so I googled it and found this post, I was a little worried to slap my iPad, but it really worked!!!! It probably isn't the best fix, but it I took no time and didn't cost anything. All I did was take the case of and started to (pat at first) on the back and edges. I then placed the iPad on my two hands and balanced it, then gently threw it up and caught it in the hit the corner and taaadaaaa ! My colour was back to normal!! I have no clue how or why, but hey, Im not complaining!!

It worked but then after a couple minutes the screen went red again! Will this keep happening?? The screen is still red and I can't get it to go back. Should I turn it off and then try again later??

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I received my I Pad from my kids last year for my 50th birthday. I dropped it last night and my screen went red. I'd only had it 8 months to the day and was so upset I couldn't sleep. I tried hitting it on the back and the first 2 times nothing happened. The 3rd time I hit a little harder and the color and screen returned to normal! Thank you, thank you!!

Jim71 I think you're famous. This crazy solution worked for me too. I was about to spend $250 to send it in and get it fixed. On a lark, I typed in my symptoms and the "slap it" solution worked just like advertised. Unbelievable! I told my son he owes me $250 for consulting fees. To add to the directions . . . I used a closed fist and knocked like I was knocking on a door. I used about the same force as if I knew the residents were in the basement and the knock had to count. The magic happened after about the 7th knock.

I made an account to say thank you! I was so bummed when I dropped my Ipad 2 and saw the red screen. Slapping the back didn't work for me but I had dropped it on one end from pretty high up. I tried dropping it again over carpet in the same way that it fell, and it worked on the second try. It was about a 2 ft. drop at most. It squiggled up again in one spot for just a second since then but I'm not worried about it. Thanks so much, you made my day.

Hi can anyone help please, I haven't dropped my iPad but on Sunday night did spill a drink into of the pram which wet the iPad alittle (was in cover) I dryed it, and last night my screen turned red, it goes back to normal for abit then turns read again, I haven't tried the wracking the back as it wasn't a dropped problems, thanks in advance

I thought this link was a silly prank at first, but I wasn't about to spend $250 to repair a 2 years old Ipad II and I wanted an excuse to get a new one anyway. So I slapped my Ipad on the back twice.

I guess I will be using the old 'beat-up' Ipad for a while because the slapping did worked. Thanks!

I just read this article to find some issues like mine, I have blue line across my display almost in the middle, and my warranty got expired few days ago, so I have looked for solutions and just trapped here !!!! And HOLLY COW THIS MAGICAL THREAD HAS CURE MY IPAD!!!!

I event didn't tap my light back, and it's works !!!! I dunno maybe this apple service did that in background, but THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thanks folks. My son dropped his iPad 2 and it went all red (although all the other colors still worked, just everything was more red). He was too scared to tell me. A few hard hits and it had a fuzzy red halo, a few more and it's back to normal. Awesome.

Unbelievable! It worked! Back in the day, when my family's B&W had trouble with the horizontal or vertical hold, that was a sure fire solution and hence I had the same impulse, to give it firm hit and hopefully knock it back into operation. But I stopped myself from doing so, thinking that there was no way the same solution would work for this kind of device. Brought a smile to my face as each slap caused the red to recede and the normal coloring to return.

OOh my GOSH!!! My son came on the porch with his four year old sister and says mommy Genesis said look Isaiah the ipad,is red. I looked at it and was immediately angry! So I searched "my iPad is now red" and found this forum. I was desperate. So? I began to tap my iPad on my dresser and after a few taps? My iPad was clear and like NEW again! Thank you sooooo much Jim for sharing this AWESOME tip! Woo hoo #happyagain. 🙂

Thank you soooo much! My sons iPad 2 had this problem and I was making him save to buy a new one, as we believed he'd been careless with it. He is almost there. Suddenly my daughter had the same problem and there is no way she was careless with it as she is super careful, and it has a military grade Griffin case on it. We were gobsmacked and were one day away from buying her another one.
She had heard from kids at school there was a fix to this problem and so I googled it and found your post. We tried it on hers and a light tap was enough. A fair few really good whacks were needed for my sons, but now his is fixed too. You have saved us all quite a bit of money and we are eternally grateful for your thoughtfulness in sharing this post. It sounds crazy but tapping the ipad with a hammer really worked. I dropped my ipad a few inches from the carpet and everything turned red. as I investigated ways to fix it, all I read was to stand the ipad on the sofa with the docking port on top and screen facing me. I tapped the right side edge of the docking port on the edge. It took a few tries because I was hesitant to hit it too hard. After a few tries, presto, the screen went back to normal.
