iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Thanks for the post. I had the same issue and solved it.I was trying "slap" method but that did not help. Then i saw this post and tried "gentle twist" approach and that did it.Again thanks for this post.

i Honestly was terrified to try this but after hemming and hawing I figured what did I have to lose. I spanked it a number of times and the green was mostly gone. Tried once more and VOILA! I am forever grateful

Dropped my IPad about an hour ago in a parking lot. Screen was black. I came home, googled what to do, found this community, and dropped IPad again. It worked. Thanks all. I cannot afford a new IPad and I use it for work. These posts were a lifesaver.

Thanks to everyone who posted in this forum with their success stories. I had the crazy screen problem last night and Googled ipad screen lines which led me right to this discussion where I read each and every person's story in disbelief that it might actually work. I finally worked up the courage to try it this morning and three drops from about three feet on a carpeted surface and boom---just like new! My iPad (1st gen) and my wallet thank you all most sincerely!

Slapping it didn't fix my green screen, nor did dropping it on the opposite edge, or twisting it (even to the point where I could see black marks on the display), or drumming hard on the back. I decided that I should gradually increase the force of the slap by dropping it (in a silicone case) onto a tiled floor from a gradually increasing height. Nothing happened until it went from normal picture but green to a fuzzy black moving pixelation in some areas.

⚠I was going to post here to warn people that hitting it can make it worse. In frustration, I dropped it again onto its back from a smaller distance onto a table. And instantly it was repared, both the fuzz and the green vanished, and all looks like normal.

It seems the shock that made it a little worse prepared it for the next one that fixed it.

This can't be good for the device long-term. I'd love to hear from someone at Apple on this most celebrated technique.

The chair beside my. The first time it went right itself after about 30 mins. This time I had had to slap it on the back

Dropped my iPad2 in its Zagg heavy-duty case onto my tiled bathroom floor this morning, and was heartbroken when I went to use it at work. The screen was full of lines and I thought it was going to cost me lots 'o' money to get it fixed. But through the seredipity of the Internet, I found this thread, and thought I'd give it the 'drop it again' method a try. I took it out of the case, and dropped it on its back from about 6 inches above the concrete floor onto my folded-up cashmere wrap (about 2 inches thick), booted it up, and magically, the screen issue is FIXED. Thanks for everyone's stories - they gave me the confidence to go for it!

I tap the back for ample of times after reading this and it didn't work but out of curiosity of how yours did i tap all over the back like how anyonw would tap his hands while listening to music and wallla!!! It did ^.^

This really worked ! Just wanted to say thanks. Just spank your ipad in the back a couple of times (i.e. keep spanking it until the screen colors are fine). That worked for me, I needed about 20 slaps or something like that.

There was a very nostalgic feeling as well while spanking this IPAD. Reminded me of having to beat the side of the television for my parents growing up. Have we come full circle?

My IPAD is a gift from my family and I was horrified when the screen turned green after I accidentaly dropped it. Based on the advise from this forum, I tried dropping my IPAD, gingerly, a few times. No good. I then decided to drop it from the same height (about 3 feet) and in the same manner (on the side). Worked like a charm!!!!

I must add that my IPAD had the cover on and I dropped it on the carpet, just to be on the save side. The accidental drop earlier was on the marble floor!

Worked for me as well!! Dropped it on the garage floor getting it out of the car. It has a cover, but screen would only show black/gray lit screen. Did a little "manipulative medicine" (open handed smacks to the back cover) and PRAYED!! It is back on! Praise the Lord!

My partner had his beloved iPad in his locker at work, pulled something out and it came with it and dropped 5ft onto a hard floor. The screen went black and so was his mood so when he got home we googled it and ended up on this amazing community site - and after numerous slaps, drumming, controlled drops it's running again !!! Many, many thanks for your valuable tips!!!

Omg! I drooped my I pad and it also had this red back ground! My husband said google the problem and see what they recommend on this problem. He said if more than10 persons say drop it he will drop it also.He dropped it about 6 times and before you know it, I pad is back to normal. We can't believe it. Thanks folks.
