iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

Oh. My. God. I dropped my Ipad two days ago. Everything that had been black was suddenly red. It was a hot mess. I decided to google the problem before turning it into an Ipad for parts with the company I work with. I found this stream of information. I tapped and tapped and finally dropped it a few times on my desk from about 2-3 inches above. NORMAL SCREEN popped up, I am totally AMAZED. Cannot believe this worked.

This is hysterical, I don't know if I didn't hit it hard enough or what but I accidentally dropped my ipad after it turned red and lo and behold it restored to the correct colors! Never would I have expected this to work ! still shaking my head...

OMG!!!! This really works! My son dropped my ipad2 and I was sooooo worried that I would have to pay a ton of money to get it fixed but I google my problem and this link came up, so I got a bath towel (as my home is tiled) and folded it in two placed it on my floor and dropped my iPad on it like 4 or 5 times and was amazed by the results, my screen is perfect once again, thank you very much!!!

I love you! My mom and I have been borrowing my cousin's iPad for a bit, and two days ago my dog knocked it off of the arm of our couch. *BAM!* Fuzzy redness and panic. Hit it a few times and now we don't have to buy a replacement. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Hi jim i too have the same problem before then i slap at the back of my ipad and its working great but i now i has blue background with 4 lines on its screen. I cant see anything on its screen. Ive tried to tap it but its not working. Please help.

You are a GOD! My son dropped his iPad 2 and the screen went wonky. I gave up all hope and went so far as start the process of ordering another iPad 2 as he is required to have it for school. 5 nice knuckle raps on the back and bam! Clear display--father's wallet saved! Bless you!

BRILLIANT! I thought this iPad was done for. Some undeserving person dropped this iPad and maanged to crack a tiny part of the screen. After playing the back of the iPad like a bongo for a few minutes, it's back to normal!

Mine was blank screen but when i press the home button, i got sliding grey screen only 1/3 of the screen and went back to blank. I cant see the pictures or video when connected to a laptop. It just showed empty. However with itune it cannot read because my ipad is password protected and i cant even see this screen on my ipad. Pls help

I had the same problem.

I dropped my iPad 1. When I tried to turn it on, nothing appeared on the screen. I would see distorted, flashing screen when I tried to turn it off. I thought I would have to throw my iPad away.

I slapped the back of my iPad (quite hard). The first slap, nothing changed. Then 3 hard slaps and it worked like nothing has ever happened to it !

3 months later, it still works well.

So, slap its back for few time. It worked for me. I hope it will work for you too !

As many people stated slapping it in the back few times then restarting helps. This is one weird solution. Hopefully this will last and not bring the red screen back anytime soon.

I took my iPad on holiday with me and while placing (not dropping) it in the tray at the airport, to go through the metal detector, the screen went bright red. Wondered myself if it was a soft screen connection and therefore just needed to be realigned, so after reading this I had a go. Slapped it a few times and then dropped it from about 12 inches on to a carpeted floor and hey presto, it went back to normal. Huge relief!

Second time that the darn thing falls off the bed. The first time, screen went bad, lots of weird colors. I found this thread and was amazed how after I had lost hope of the ipad working ever again, it came back to life. It's been a while since that happened, the Ipad has worked fine for months. Tonight, it fell off the bed again. This time, the screen was displaying a white, grey animation, over and over. The reset function didn't work. I slaped it on its back a few times, nada. What worked this time was droping it again, flat on its back less than 2 feet off the ground (inside its case). Voila...It worked! SO thankful.

You have discovered the main disadvantage with lead free solder. Leaded solder was just about the perfect material for soldering circuit boards. It had a certain amount of 'give' when temperature changes occurred or the circuit got dropped. Lead free solder has no 'give' at all and is brittle by comparison. One decent knock and it breaks.

Wow! I had the exact same problem - blue (cyan?) lines across white parts of the screen and red patches where there should have been black. Three firm knocks on the back and it returned to normal. Phenomenal!
