iPad dropped, now with red screen/background

I am still in shock. I thought I was a goner when my 1 year old pulled my iPad off the bedside table and it hit the floor. Not a long distance and the case was on. But this "slapping the back" worked. Not high tec but I will take it. Just hope it lasts!

I know you posted this long ago. But, I had the same issue after my Mom dropped my iPad2. I tried the slap on the back and it came back to normal. Am so glad I don't need to send it for servicing. Woohoo!

I also had this problem with my iPad 2. I knocked it off of a table, then the red screen pixalation issue started. I slapped it on the back a few times, and that didn't work. Then I recreated the issue by dropping it from about 3" off of the floor. That did the trick. The issue is gone and my screen looks normal. Incredible. I love this fix!

OMG!!! I was frantic, my IPAD fell off the ledge of our deck. Luckily, onto the deck, but screen was blurry and green. So I quickly googled and found this, it works!!!!!! Just stand over the couch though in case you drop it, and slap the back of your IPAD in all different places, worked for me, thank you so very much to the people who post things like this!

I'm another who lost my display after my iPad fell off a bed. I slapped it once. No luck. Gave it three good slaps. No luck. I was sure that a trip to the Apple Store and $250 were in my future. Tried once more and slapped it five times. The display came back on and, like so many others have reported, my iPad seems as good as new.

To the orginal poster: Do you know how much happiness you've brought so many people? Not to mention the dollars, miles, and time you've saved so many of us.

Mine's iPad 1 and I got it home after a rough bike ride and it was all unsyncronised lines, I guess is descriptive, rather than the red/green or fuzzy. Twisting fixed it, where slapping did not. It seemed to "click" back into allignment.

We had an Ipad that was dropped by a student and the screen went haywire too.. There was no physical damage to the screen or back, and we were JUST about to pay the $249 to get an out of warranty replacement. But i figured, what the heck, let me google this issue and found this tread.

Took the Ipad to the back workroom to manhandle it to see if I could reverse its missfortune w/o causing more damage. I mean what's the worse that could happen, after all, we were going to be out 249 anyways.. So I dropped it about 6 inches onto a box to help cushion the impact about 5-8 times w/ no luck. Was about to give, up, and then I tried about 12 inches and on the 1st drop, it immediately returned to normal. Its as if these Ipads commonly suffer from Amnesia..

Now if only we could figure out how to drop them a certain way to double or even triple it's storage capacity.. I'd love to be the 1st to figure that out so I can turn our 16 gigg versions to say a 64 gigg versions.

Hey, guys!! I resolved my ploblem with all these posts!!

Here is what happened: I droped the ipad 2 and there were no image, just a dark and navy blue dispay.

Then I hit it firmly at the back facing main display to me.

Suddelnyl it worked and I had display but green and pink (almost unusable). But I could do a backup and save all my information.

Then I start to look for information in youtube, blogs, posts, etc, and I did find this information on hitting it again on the back firmly..... it worked again, but change form the green and pink to green and red........ well I had nothing to loose exept money (my data was safe)!! So I did hit it again and agiain every time harder.......

I did find that the EXACT hit has to be done with open hand (fingers) about 1/4 heigth from bottom, something was changing in the display every time I hit it with certain force. Suddenly..........................WOW!!!!

GOT IT!!!

The perfect colors again!!!!

Wow this worked like a charm!! To clear the red flip the iPad over with the home button on the bottom. You need to tap on the back in this location: 1-1/2" up from the far right of the back of the iPad is the spot you tap on.

My formula was to suspend the iPad (while on) 24 inches above a Persian carpet (tight weave), laid over an oak hardwood floor.

Then drop it on it's back.

I watched it reset when it landed on the carpet.

I would think that there's some sort of reset upon impact device inside the iPad.

I can't believe it did, but it did. My iPad2 was dropped onto a tiled floor from only 6 inches. The screen went black/ off but I could tell the iPad was still working as I could hear it. It also talked to iTunes no problem. Also, when I I did a screenshot (on button + home button) I could catch a glimpse of the screen.

I got it to stay on a few times but it went off again a few minutes later. After doing the screenshot thing maybe 100 times over an hour it eventually stayed on, but there was a really weird red ghosting on everything. Then I found this thread. I smacked it on the back about 5 times and HEY PRESTO it's now perfect.

I thought that smacking electronics only worked for valve televisions back in the seventies, but no, it appears it is still a valid technological remedy. :-)

i dropped my ipad 2 from less than 2 feet and I got this reddish screen, I thought that I would have to buy another ipad... until I found this post, my boyfriend started laughing when I told him that there was a tapping on the back technique to fix it... I hit it a couple of times and it didn't work. Until a couple of more smacks and voilà! It is back to normal again! Thanks again for the tapping technique!

I dropped my I pad from my lap. Then the screen went Red. Thanks to the forum as adviced I tried banging in all direction but it did not help. However about 1/2 hour back I dropped it on floor from about 10" and to my surprise the colors restored to normal.

My daughter dropped the ipad2 on the floor. Was pulling my hair out since I was so frustrated. I thought all was lost and then went on-line and saw this thread.

Whacked it a few times in the back - Didn't work. Dropped it (while in the case, back first) about 3 inches - Didn't work. Went up to about a foot and voila! All is well again!
