    My three month old Nano gen 6 died last night - it gets so hot when plugged in that it can't be touched. I brought it to the store and the tech desk said the liquid indicator had been tripped.  I run with the nano in a case wrapped around my right arm - matter of fact the thing has never left the protector and looks brand new.  While its not waterproof, the case does protect the Nano.  How in the world can an Apple product marketed as a fitness device die when minimally expeosed to sweat?


    For what it is worth the Nike App lieterally says,

    Clip your iPod nano to your waist/hip.



    The manager at the store clearly didn't want to be bothered by me and told me my only option was to buy another one.  I contacted support and they offered to let me buy a replacement for $65 but I have to go back to store and deal with the manager - again!  I can honestly say I will NEVER go back to the Ridgedale Minnetonka, MN Apple store when about a billion other stores offer Apple products without the arrogant attitude of this person.

    Same here. Been thru four nanos. All four had failed backlights, and the third also got extremely hot. Luckily for me, the sensor never tripped. I think a drop of sweat got into the dock connector and shorted it. I had each one replaced.


    With this last one, I literally keep it in a Ziploc bag.

    Add me to the list. Replaced my shuffle with the Nano 6 months ago. After a few runs I started to have volume and skipping issues and then total failure. Had to pay $60 or $65 2 months ago for a refurb replacement that has now gone the same way. The Apple Store sales weasel tried to upsell me one with 12 months warranty because of the sweat issue. At the time I thought this was just crazy talk as the product is marketed for exercise. I'm afraid Apple has become the new Evil empire. I believed in them as an innovator and producer of top quality products for years when they were overshadowed by Microsoft. Now they have market domination, they've acquired the same arrogance and are now taking their customers for granted. I for one am looking out for another fledgling company that believes in quality and appreciates my custom.

    I am in the same boat...apparently I sweat terrible, I am noticing corrosion and lots of weird issues occurring I am certain failure is imminent. Worst part is I was part of the recall with the 1st gen Nano (that spontaneously burst into flames). I didn't want to return because I like to hold onto my old Apple stuff, keep the OG packaging and just put it away like some sick hoarder. In the end I returned because my shuffle was a pain to work out with (having Bon Iver start playing when you are in the middle of a bench press set is a sure fire way to have weights break your sternum). I was super impressed with Apple’s customer care, response, and replacement process.


    Now after reading this chain I am certain Apple will do nothing to appease us...this is a shame and now I will no longer praise their customer service. I wish I kept my 1st gen, and buying a new one will just result in another problem. Please Do the right thing Apple and recall / replace with something engineered specifically to endure physical activity as that is how it is primarily positioned.


    In case you were wondering I bench 225lbs 3 sets of 12…just thought I needed to add some legitimacy to my athletic capabilities / prowess.  Need a new Apple device to continue to get my swell on.

    I've had my nano since Christmas. I've been running with an old iPhone 4 because of its Bluetooth, I hate running or rowing with wires, but I've been waiting for the nano with Bluetooth so my wife got me one for Christmas.  I run with it attached to my arm with the Belkin arm band. I began running with it in Alabama in cooler weather but when i got back down to where i work in brazil i found out what the sweat will do. Actually it was only 77 deg last night. When I complete my runs, I pull the nano out and find that its moist on the back of the unit from my sweat seeping through the band. Last night my nano died. I unable to get any display or any action when plugging it to iTunes.

    I see here where everyone else has had the same issue so that answers my question as to whether or not it died of some other defect. I guess I'll go back to using my iPhone. The nano is so much lighter tho. It was nice while it lasted

    My nano 7th expired last night on a run. I've had it less than a month. Can anyone recommend an MP3 player, besides an iPod, with Bluetooth capability and I can exercise with?

    Not one that won't die from moisture exposure without a waterproof case. Or a ziplock bag (that's what I use).

    I've gone thru 3 Nanos because of sweat/moisture. Now, my 4th has been in a ziplock in my pocket and haven't had an issue.   Any player with an exposed port is likely going to have an issue.

    I initiated this post well over a year ago.  After my final frustration with the ipods, I bought a Motorola product called the Motoactv.  It has bluetooth, MP3, it's waterproof/sweatproof (and I live in Florida) and has a lot of other very cool features.  The Motoactv actually has GPS and was made to compete with Garmin type products, with the major bonus of having the GPS/MP3 combo.  I've been quite happy with it.

    Yeah I checked out the moats yesterday online. I'm interested in it but I'd hate to fork out the money for that when I have the Nike sport watch already.

    The good news is, I put my nano in a ziplock with rice yesterday and I just took it out and it powered on. Now I'll try and run with it in plastic, hopefully the Bluetooth signal will go through,and see if the motion is affecting the operation.

    I know this is sort of 2 years behind the times, but I too have had the "sweat batter shortage" issue. I thought I had resolved it once using the rice trick and I stopped clipping the nano to my waistband while running to avoid excess moisture. I bought a pretty pricy watch band to use it with while I run. All seemed great up until last week. I've had it in rice again for 7 days. It turns on a bit and flickers, and goes off. My computer still recognizes it, but it does me no good as I can't access the music or nike+ buttons due to the battery shortage. I think this is a huge flaw given that this particular nano was supposed to be made for running, given the nike+ built in feature. I have had a number of nano's over the years and have to say they all still work great (just diminished overall battery power)! This is the first generation i've had issues with. I now feel invested in this specific nano 6 because of the watch strap I got to help with the issue. I know you can send in to apple to have them fix the battery but at what cost given what this generation is probably currently worth? Just frustrated and wanted to know if anyone had any more luck with apple or fixing the issue themselves? Melissa

    You can try. Some of the Apple stores in NYC  will replace it no charge, others will not. I think they wanted to cahrge me $75 at one point, but I just went to a different store. I don't know about sending it in.


    But if you do get it fixed, try sending it to Liquipel for water proofing. About $60

    I've been using my WaterFi proofed 6 gen nano for about a year now with no problems at all. I run with it several times a week and I frequently rinse it off under the tap.

    It's frustrating.. I bought a nano 7th gen today.. ran once using a clip case... may or may not have gotten some sweat on it.. and its toast.. after one use!  my friend gave me his 6th generation and I used the stupid watch clip and of course ran with it and sweat got on it and that one stopped working.. I still own the very first nano which works like a champ.. it was in a neoprene clip case and all I can thing of was the neoprene would absorb the sweat when I ran.. I really hope they let me exchange it..  or else they have a useless paper weight flying out the front door..  I hope apple will read these and get off their ***** and fix the issue.

    My second 4th generation shuffle crapped the bed on me today.  I guess I sweat too much as well.  Thanks for such a crap product Apple.  Funny that when your marketing is acted upon your products go to crap.

    To Frank Malloy (ziploc bag user): Sorry to be obtuse, but how do you get access to the headphones? I just replaced my Nano because of sweat issues and have been online researching a waterproof case but a ziploc bag sounds smart!
