Lion OS X 10.7 and Quicken 2007

Anyone know if it is true that if you upgrade from SL 10.6 to Lion 10.7 you no longer can use Quicken for Mac 2007? I saw that here:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2015353039_ptmacc18.htm l

If so what are some solutions other than not upgrading the O.S?

There is not nor will not be any updated versions of Quicken for Mac.

You can run Quicken for PCs on Bootcamp or in Windows on your Mac as a virtual machine. But, if you want to get away from using Windows?

This alone would stop me from updating to Lion but, eventually I’ll need to update the Mac OS. (New computer, need a future feature, etc.)

It would be nice to find an alternative to Quicken or another solution.

I would agree that if iBank pleases you, stay with it but this change is as simple as anything I've done. It works very well also. I have no idea how a transfer of data from iBank back to Quicken would work. I tried iBank for a while keeping Quicken also working at the same time. I hated iBank and stopped using it, so I guess it's each his own.

Switching back to quicken would require iBank: File > Export > to QIF and use quicken to import the QIF into a blank file.

You would then have to validate that the transfer process didn't screw up the data as badly as the Quicken to iBank process screwed it up. My transfer to iBank dealt very poorly with split transaactions involving transfers from my checking to 401k.

Thanks for posting. I'm kindof upset they didn't send an email to registered users to let them know it was available.

Has anyone tried switching back to this version after changing to Quicken Essentials? I already upgraded to QEM on my Mac when I switched to Lion, now I'm wondering if this upgrade will recognize QEM files.

Nevermind, I found the answer- it's right on their FAQ page (guess I haven't had enought coffee yet this morning).

I was not able to open the new Lion-compatible Quicken file in Snow Leopard, so I went ahead an upgraded to Lion. Unfortunately my file still did not opent (spinning beach ball). I spent several hours with Quicken technical support and they concluded that although my file worked fine in the previous Quicken for Mac 2007 version, it had somehow gotten corrupted. I had to send technical support my data file, they fixed it in a few minutes and sent it back.

Now everything is working. I did have to update historical security prices, as no quotes carried over with the migration. A long arduous process and no going back now, but I finally have the new OS and can use iCloud.

Has anyone successfully used the Quicken for Mac 2007 online bank bill pay after updating to the Lion version?

I have found no reference to this service, and it is critically important to me. No mention on the Intuit web site or in the Intuit forum.

Also, I have not found any other of the current consumer finance programs that supports this. Has anyone been successful with it?

Thanks!

Mar 9, 2012 2:26 PM in response to William Mcclatchey1

William,

I too find the bill pay from within Quicken to be of primary value--in fact, it's the main reason I never switched programs. That, and the imprcise conversion of data that streches back into the 1980's. iBank certainly doesn't, and my favorite of the also-rans, SEE Finance didn't and developers said it was not a priority.

I did successfuly use the bill pay feature from within Quicken after conversion.

Thanks for your reply, Frank. I feel encouraged enough to cautiously proceed with the update.

But I will save a copy of my original data file.

I don't trust this company.

They have demonstrated a remarkable callousness toward the Mac customer for some years now, and they clearly have not had their customers' interests at heart.

I looked at Mac Essentials when it came out, and was appalled at what a useless piece of software it was, and how much of a downgrade from Quicken for Mac 2007.

The online bill pay kept me from moving to any other program, as there were none which provided the bill pay functionality as effectively as Quicken for Mac 2007. I have even maintained an old 12" PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.5, kept for the exclusive purpose of running Quicken for Mac 2007, which it does very effectively. I hope that I can now finally retire this antique notebook.

Best,

Bill

I upgraded to the "new" Lion-compatible Quicken 2007 today (for the past nine months I'd been running Quicken 2007 in a virtual machine under Parallels Desktop.) I think Intuit is a lousy company that has treated users poorly for many, many years, but I was not able to find another financial package that met all of my needs.

Since moving to the Lion version of Q-2007, I am unable to transmit bill payments to Quicken Bill Pay. I get a message stating that the server is unavailable or my account information is incorrect. Since the account information isn't wrong, and I have no reason to think the server isn't up, I think this feature may be broken.

ANyone else having this problem?

Mar 11, 2012 1:35 PM in response to DaviatorSF

In fact I have had just the opposite experience. Quicken runs a bit faster under Lion, downloading accounts (I have 12 from two different banks and three different brokerage firms) is faster, and I've paid five or six bills from within Quicken since installing Friday night.

I share everyone's frustration with Intuit, however I tried every single package recommended by posters in this forum, hoping against hope that one could compete with the overall package presented by Quicken. None allowed for bill payments to be created and paid from within the program--thus I would have to be doing double entry in a way--paying from the bank site and accepting and categorizing after download. Only See Finance imported data correctly back to 1988--something I must have given the number of transfers that COULD obscure the correct basis in a stock. But See doesn't print checks or do bill pay. iBank came close but made a hash of transferring account data. In the end, I choose to wait it out with Quicken.

I know everyone has their favorite, but Quicken has met my needs and they have turned out what appears to me to be a good update. Like Intuit or not, I haven't found a program with the parts that add up to the sum of Quicken. And I don't want to cut of my nose just to spite my face, so while I may not be a great fan of Intuit, I've said thanks for this version of Quicken and I hope they live up to their promise of a better Mac Quicken in the future.
