Lion OS X 10.7 and Quicken 2007

Anyone know if it is true that if you upgrade from SL 10.6 to Lion 10.7 you no longer can use Quicken for Mac 2007? I saw that here:

If so what are some solutions other than not upgrading the O.S?

There is not nor will not be any updated versions of Quicken for Mac.

You can run Quicken for PCs on Bootcamp or in Windows on your Mac as a virtual machine. But, if you want to get away from using Windows?

This alone would stop me from updating to Lion but, eventually I’ll need to update the Mac OS. (New computer, need a future feature, etc.)

It would be nice to find an alternative to Quicken or another solution.

Just downloaded it. Gave me this message "Quicken Mac Lion 2007 DOWNLOAD for Windows" which caused me a pause but since I had come from the Lion page quoted above, I went ahead. Small download and it went into the App folder and away we went. Seems fine. $15 bucks isn't bad considering what I paid for other programs I tried that didn't work. I'm happy now I can move on to Lion.

I'm told by Quicken support that the new Lion compatible Quicken for Mac will not open in Snow Leopard. I tried and got the spinning beach ball. The say you have to upgrade to Lion first, and then download the new application and it automatically converts your data file.

A bit risky if it doesn't work, since my old Quicken for Mac file won't open in Lion.

OK - it does run in Snow leopard. I do get a very strange error message everytime I open a file:

"Insecure update error!

For security reasons, you need to distribute your appcast over SSL or sign your updates. See Sparkle's documentation for more information."

I spent a long time on Quicken support - they didn't seem to really know what the error is but told me to just dismiss the window - that it had something to do with my firewall and Quicken apparently trying to do something with the network (a little disconcerting if you ask me). The fellow I interacted with didn't know what Sparkle was or what appcast could be referring to.

When I dismiss the window Quicken seems to otherwise work just fine. There's a message about one of my buttons being turned off (not sure which one) as it is no longer supported. It's not clear that it's fully Lion compatible yet - two finger swiping doesn't move windows. Otherwise, though, it seems a bit more responsive than the prior version of Quicken, so it's worth considering even if you're not ready for Lion. Heaven knows I'm not going yet - I'm very uneasy about the changes made to address book / iCal and the switch from MobileMe (which works reasonably well as long as I use iTunes to sync my calendars) to iCloud (which appears to not be workable for me for compliance reasons).

Finally. Just paid my $15, downloaded and opened in Lion. Seems to work fine although I did get an error message saying that some buttons had been removed because they were for functionality that's no longer available.

Anyone know what went away?

Anyway, seems fine but I'm ready to declare victory yet given Intuit's history.

What it's been since 2007 that they haven't done anything with the product. Then after Rosetta goes away, they hire a guy and in a matter of months they crank out a Lion-compatible version? Couldn't have been that hard once they put their minds to it...

Amen to that.

After many, many years with Quicken, I switched to iBank at the end of last year (2011) - see earlier posts.

Best move I have made in a long time.

It's a great program with a few glitches.

But, unlike Quicken, they seem committed to working out the Mac wrinkles.

The above posts raise the hairs on the back of my neck...sounds like Quicken once again with the limited Mac support..always reluctant!

I do love iBank!
