I am unable to update my apple tv gen2

When I try to update the Apple Tv, I recieve a message saying that the device cannot download the most recent update and that I should try again later. I have also had issues signing in to Netflix, but those issues seem to be unrelated.

They are unable to fix a basic ATV update because their servers are down (that's the most reasonnable speculation until their departement's wake up to talk to us) and they want us to trust them for ICloud ?!!!

Do you imagine your self loosing important work files and having, as unique solution, the opportunity to scream your frustration in this place deserted by Apple's communication employees...

I think it's no secret that Steve Jobs was not a great fan of the first generation ATV and I've heard it said wanted to kill it off. The second generation ATV is much more integrated into the Apple family especially with AirPlay so I thought it was here to stay - I hope so, I think it's a great addition to the Apple suite of products especially if like me you want to digitise your media collection but enjoy it on a full size HD TV with good stereo and surround surround and not rely on computers and mobile devices for playback. But there's something in what you say - if you go to the support page and see all the products listed on the top banner it's not there, nor is it even listed under 'other devices'...but I don't believe it's a non Apple product, that's a bit too 'conspiracy theory' for me. The OSX-Files perhaps? 😉

The word from on-high is -- don't keep trying to update this thing; We'll e-mail you when the fix is ready. It puts my mind to work on other things. Frankly, my ATV2 ver. 4.2.1 does all it needs to. However, I don't like the mystery behind this particular Servergate. I was briefly taken aback when my phone counselor from Apple seemed to scoff at the wee enhancements I was missing as a result of not being able to update this device. But she did also apologize effusively.

And yet - considering that some have received this update - one has to wonder what's actually going on.

It's all Big Brother. Better get used to it.

I am very frustrated by this - seems like it has been around for a while. Just bought my APTV a week ago and had no end of problems - home sharing keeps dropping out, rebooting many many times, trying various combinations of wireless, wired, routers etc etc - even went to the expense of replacing my wifi with Airport Extreme - I was living in the obvious vain hope that the upgrade that kept failing would actually fix all these problems. This is a serious flaw by Apple. The product does not work as advertised. I am thinking of taking it back if it isnt fixed soon. The second issue is the silence - they know I have one, they know my email address, they must know I am constantly rebooting and trying to upgrade. Surely they could let us know by email!!!

My son got me the ATV2 for Fathers day, and 2 days ago I had the courage to install it. It went well except trying to update the software. I tried for 2 days and no luck. This afternoon I tried again thinking what the heck it could do the same but to my surprise it did update to 4.2.2 (From Boston) 😮

I always hold my breath when updating Apple softwares I don't know why, but good luck to you all, I think they may have figured it out.🙂

With the incredible iOS5 buzz surrounding wireless full-screen mirroring from the iPad to an HDTV EXCLUSIVE to Airplay and therefore Apple TV I simply can't imagine this product going anywhere but up from here which makes me also very, very befuddled at this lack of attention to this now quite long-standing problem.
