I am unable to update my apple tv gen2

After some experimenting, I determined it is the SHIFT key that must be held down windows while pressing restore to launch the manual file find dialog.

A week after I bought my AppleTV and this is still not fixed...ridiculous! It's an update server, Apple -- throw some of your billions at it and just get the ****** thing working already!

Hi, from Portugal cannot update the appletv gen2. I have read that it is from the servers from Apple that have something that don´t allow to do the update. Can someone on Apple do something about this matter? Their are many people comlpaining about the same situation...

Same here, on TWO units in Georgia. Had to change the screen saver to activate at 2 minutes, because when set to 5 minutes, I kept getting the Update notice every minute or so---even when I hit "later."

Zero acknowledgment from Apple about this issue is, to be charitable, disconcerting.

I have the same issue. I took my AppleTV to the Apple store today and they were unable to update it either. They said the update (image file) is corrupt somehow so it will have to be escalated to Apple to resolve. I hope that this issue gets escalated and made a priority.

1st post...Purchased ATV last week from Apple...shipped with Ver. 4.2.1 and will not update over WiFi in Dallas, TX. Everything working okay otherwise.

I, too, am having trouble updating my software. The reason for updating was trying to fix problems seen recently - unable to watch anything in NetFlix - screen just freezes upon download.. Also unable to play podcasts both on the internet or on my own computer? I'm located in NH, USA

Can sombody try to update their AppleTV now, Apple tells me that this should work now, as of last night.

I do not have my AppleTV here with me, so I can´t try it right now.

Just tried. It failed. If Apple could just give us reliable information...they seem unable either to diagnose the problem or to ensure all their people worldwide have access to information about what to advise. Are people still being told to return their units for example? Or restart their routers? Not having the update isn't a biggie for me as the unit functions without it but I need to know whether my unit will fail on future updates, especially if I'm outside the 90 day free support period. And I'm a bit tired of the update reminders popping up...

Sorry Smrf69, just updated via iTunes. However if you need to use this method it works fine. Just discovered I had a micro USB as a charger for my blutooth headset! Some of the posts weren't clear but you should disconnect everything, including power chord before plugging the USB in. iTunes recognizes the ATV2 after a short think and then pressing 'Option' and selecting Restore starts the process so you can select where you have saved the restore file (as downloaded from the megadownload site referenced in previous posts)

Still not working. At Dallas TX. This is frustrating. I even tried the usb technique and it gives me an error message. I just gave up on it. I don't want to brick the thing. But come on Apple! If you are going to relese an update, at least release the update that fixes the update bug. lol 😕

Update still fails in switzerland. I also tried to reset ATV2. Same problem. New update found but it fails.

I have problems in streaming videos from my iphone 4 to ATV2. If I enable a video I recorded with iphone 4 camera the first image of the video appears and then ATV2 just loading and loading and nothing happens. Even the video is very short. I can stream Images without any problems and can also watch movies i ordered via ATV2. Hope this is just a software problem.

Mines the same, it starts the download for the update then fails...can I ask though, is anyone having problems with the appletv setting the date and time?? I done a restore and as you know it sets the date and time through the network, but it's just taking for ever. Appletv knows the network is there, iPad and iPods are picking up the network and appletv....what's going wrong??

Woeahaha!!! It's a joke the way apple spends billions on lawsuits against anyone slightly referring to their branding or style, but they are too **** stingy to spend a few hundred bugs fixing their **** software... If it wasn't so frustrating to see that message pop up every 30seconds, it'd be the best comedy I've witnessed in a long time :p

once the download is completed, for windows, press and hold the shift key and click on the restore button in itunes. this will open a window to allow you to navigate to the update file.

wait about 10 minutes and you will be golden.
