I posted the same question. I purchased FCP X (was using Final Cut Express) - I have the Canon XF plug in for Final Cut Pro that came w/ the camera (XF100). Guess what, FCP X does not have a "log and capture" command that the plug in is suppose to work with. I am continuing to use the Aunsoft video converter s/w to convert the MXF file to Apple ProRes 422 (takes time to convert). I am very disappointed. I am hoping I missed something and the Canon XF plug in will work w/ FCP X.

I do not Transcode anything on my Avid. I link to using AMA and go to work. I can't seem to import my .mxf into Final Cut Pro X. Thanks to all who post! FCP does look exciting in many ways. I hope I can use this purchase I made today. Now I have to go to work and come back tomorrow and see the solutions offered. Converting is not a solution! The idea is to speed up the work flow.

Tony, I've checked out the link. Although I appreciate the gesture, it doesn't help. It simply tells me I blew $300. So not cool, Apple. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't completely disagree with what Airtimevideo posted from the tech specs.

And to answer your question, Airtime, I don't think there is any software right now. I'm not sure what the deal with that spec is, other than a selling point to get us to spend money on software that won't do anything at all for us.

Downloaded fcpx at the Apple Store believeing it worked natively with " A V C H D "

FCE and iMovie both recognized my Canon HF S10 AVCHD internal memory and card and would convert the .mts files.

I just blew $299 and don't have a clue what "Canon XF MPEG-2; ingest supported with additional software"

means and likewise don't know where to purchase this vaporware neither am I capable at this moment of decrypting XF vs. HF! What part of AVCHD am I missing here.

While we're at it, the "missing manual" can only be accessed online. That's great for the Usual Suspect Verizon / Apple / Manual Author / Training Video alleged Guru's and their profit sharing BUT the added Verizon, Missing Manual, Training video's raise the $299 price.

Caveat Emptor! Will the Apple Store entertain my request for a refund?

This is from Canon.

We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding .

I'm sorry to hear that the plugin didn't work.

Unfortunately, since Version X is a brand new version, Canon has not

created a plugin for this version yet. Unfortunately, I don't have an

estimate for the arrival of the new version of the plugin. I regret the

inconvenience this causes.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your

XF100.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

@Robert: That works if you have FCP7. If you are new to FCP (like me) you are stuck.

@Airtime (or more directly at Canon's response): It would be nice if you could get support for the products you purchase. I knew this was coming two months ago. Apparently Canon wasn't paying attention.

I don't want to be a "sky is falling" type person. I want to wait until I get answers. Unfortunately neither Apple nor Canon appear to have any. I will wait before asking for a refund, but I will not wait forever. Somehow I think I wouldn't be able to request a refund after a couple weeks.

Hi mate,

So the Canon XF105 has the 422 codec, which looks deep baked into FCPX.

When iMovie launched in 09, it did not transcode AVCHD, from the then popular Panasonic TZ7, but soon an upgrade came out to do so. I am buying FCPX as we speak, and delaying the purchase of my Canon XF105 until this get's sorted. Otherwise I will just get a Sony NX5 AVCHD Cam, which has native support. If you need any help just hit me up on Twitter @RajKotecha.

Peace.
