Roundtrip Motion 5 from Final Cut X?

It would seem that I can't figure out how to send a clip from Final Cut X to Motion 5? I can open effects from FCX in Motion 5 to edit them, but cannot send video clips themselves. Any ideas?

While I agree that functionality should be there, Motion and Final Cut Pro are now more fully integrated than they ever have been before. Every single title, transition, effect, and generator in FCP X is a Motion 5 project - and can be very easily modified in Motion. And you can create your own and publish them to Final Cut Pro very easily. It's just not the integration you are used to.

oh 'king great. I hadnt quite realised the send to motion had gone. What a colossal epic fail. I might as well use AE for this kind of integration. Might be fine for doing a transition or a general purpose looks filter, but absolutely no good for compositing. So thats two apps they've killed. As i said motion is now just an fcp fx editor.

ok that calms me down a bit, I'm sure you know what you're talking about. However apart from the black windows and rigging what has Motion 5, a whole new version got to offer over v4? Now don't get me started on Compressor that doesnt even have the black windows! Not going to throw anything out yet, and in fact enjoying fcpx for some aspects, I'll wait for the updates patiently. But if you're wrong!!!!!!! :-)

Mark,

Does that mean that FCP X eventually becomes cluttered up with say a bunch of lower third effects from all the old projects you have worked on in the past (along with all the title graphics / whatever else you create and publish to FCP X over time)?

Also, does that mean as mentioned above that Motion can now no longer be used for simple compositing tasks (and if so, what replaces the compositing?) Shake X maybe?!

M5 is a complete rewrite. It is fully color managed and works all the time in float space. The new keyer is fabulous. The new color balance filter means you can do real color correction right in Motion. Rigging mean you can create very complex projects and manage/modify them easily.

As to FCP X getting cluttered with fx you create - you can always remove them. User > Movies > Motion Templates.
