APPLE - GIVE US OUR MONEY BACK!!!!!

This is not a Final Cut Pro piece of editing software.

This is iMovie with some enhanced features, hence the ability to import older iMovie projects,

but not Final Cut Pro projects.

I HAVE SPENT THE ENTIRE DAY BEING BOUNCED AROUND FROM THE APP STORE PEOPLE,

TO THE ITUNES PEOPLE TO THE FINAL CUT PEOPLE.

Each time they tell me another department handles what I need to have done.

When you misrepresent a product as poorly as this, people will not stand for it.

This is a joke of a "pro" app and Apple should stand up and take the punch to the stomach.

Apple you built your rep on making great products, maybe this one made sense somewhere in the

test labs, but in real life it leaves millions of professional editors who rely on FCP everyday to make a

living.

Take FCP 7, add in 64bit and I'll give you $300. Keep everything else the same for all I care, but this

app (FCPX) is completely useless for any form of professional editing.

@ All of you so called "pro's" need to stop crying, and belly aching like children that did not get your ice creme after dinner. Apple did what they did, and believe this Apple isn't just going to toss you junk app knowing how much business they do with FCP. Lion is going to be released next month therefore the next updates and patches to FCPX are on the way. Apple is a great company and they WILL NOT crap on their customers. Just be patient and chill out. Keep using FCP 7 until after Lion's release.

FannyBoy, so young, so naieve, so inexperienced in live!

THINK! Those people at Apple do not even know that we need a TAX receipt for commercial purchases! Without tax listed on a receipt we cannot ask for the tax back and you call that "a great company!"

I went by the Memphis Apple Store and same thing... I said I would like to see the new FInal Cut Pro X. The Apple Employee looked perplexed and said "You can download from the App Store" I said, I would like to see it first... She boggled a bit and said... Um we don't have it installed. I said don't you have access to the App Store? Um .. well we don't have it on the image. You can check back in 6 months. I said... but it's out now. Can I still buy Final Cut Pro 7. No she said... that's because you can get X from the Apps store.

Basically they have sent the memo out for employees to act perplexed and dumbfounded with anyone asks them about software they have already released.

I assume Apple is running any verbiage about what they plan on doing past their legal department.

**** Note to Apple, make a Demo version.. tell Apple employees something like " We are upgrading the software due to the comments" geeze remember if you are honest with your customers they will support you better.

I would say "pity the poor Apple Store employees". Final Cut is a complex, special purposed application.

I'm sure if you would have asked about GarageBand, somebody would have been able to help you.

iMovie too for that matter.

FCP is a pro app .. and their reaction is what I would expect from a commercial retail store.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

I work in a large post production facility in the heart of London, we have 17 dedicated FCP 7 editing studios. I've got news for you little kiddo - FCP X is junk.

Jun 25, 2011 5:32 AM in response to James M.

Sounds like someone who knows nothing about our business. These little (so called) editors have never cut anything that did not have drop zones. I did try, for three days, my clients hit the wall and said "your nuts". Apple cost me money by trying to fit into the new software. But it is pure crap and made for know nothing guys like those who want to tell us editors (making a living at this) to shut up. I have never seen this kind of trash come from apple before.

I too love apple products, because they show a real interest in making creative tools. But this has missed the boat and is for guys who think they can edit, but need apple to give them lots of ready made bull...

Shame on you apple, Steve jobs must already be dead.... Or this will kill him...

Jun 25, 2011 6:03 AM in response to Dan Hyman

Correct me if I'm wrong but if 90% of people here are complaining it means they care enough to want this fixed. None of us can get on the phone with Steve Jobs and tell him how we feel so we come here and make our complaints visible. If they are not taking note of what we are saying then there is no hope for FCP. I think FCPX is a load of crap as it cripples my work flow and forces me to look for alternatives. I have spent Thousands of dollars on hardware and software and FCPX is unable to use any of it. Going forward is one thing but total disregard of what a professional editor needs is another.

FCPX requires that my clients(Broadcast companies) change their work flow and systems so I can fit in. I don't think this will happen! I fit in or I loose the client. This software does not meet most pro editors client requirements.

I can't send my edits to my sound engineer on Pro tools because I can't export OMF(He is laughing at me!)

I can't use my colour corrrection monitors and harware(this doesn't come cheap!)

It is rumored that we will be able to buy plugins off the app store to meet our requirements. That this is just the bare bones and if we want more functionality we will be able to purchase the plugins. If this is true why are we not being told, why sell the software if these things are not ready?

There are rumours that when Lion comes out more functionality will be added to FCPX if this is true why release it now and not wait till after Lion is released?

Is there anyone out there that can confirm all these rumours. Maybe an Apple representative that reads this can lead us in the right direction 😉 I am sure there are millions of people who would like to know what the future holds before jumping ship.

Jun 25, 2011 6:31 AM in response to Dan Hyman

you guys are just whining w/out even trying it. yes i am a long time user of fcp and yes i make a living with editing. and i was buying into all the negative whining but finally got over it and bought the app and after messing with it for a night I am very impressed. I hated iMovie when i tried it. But this is not imovie. It is an all new FCP, much faster, much more intuitive and most of the things people are complaining about are just not true. So what if you cannot use an fcp7 project file. Finish the project in fcp7. Multi-cam? Apple has already stated it is coming and is a big priority for first update. Exporting? You watch, you will get everything you want. My God, just start learning it now and when Lion arrives you will be up to date. I am totally surprised at how much I like it when I thought I was not even going to purchase it. Yes we spent money and years learning fcp but it is time to move on. That is technology. If you cannot enable yourself to learn then don't but don't complain when you get left behind. Seems to me the people liking it and trying it and learning it are younger, and all the ''pros" are just old and ****** that they have to learn something new and join the 21st Century. I swear that is how it seems. And to complain about a clerk at an Apple store is just stupid. The software just came out. They have to learn it too before they can teach a customer. I agree you should be able to go into a store and play with it and experience it but are you sure you couldn't? Did you just walk in ask some part timer, get mad, and leave? I am sure within a week all stores will have it up. no i do not work for apple just cannot believe this whole negative bandwagon from supposed ''pros" who are just being elitist and closed minded. Surprised you can be creative at all when you are so negative.

Jun 25, 2011 6:54 AM in response to Dan Hyman

As I see it the biggest problem is that FCP 7 has now become unavailable.

OK, so FCP X has some issues and lacks many features that the professional community needs but these may well be added in the future and therefore it could become a useful application again. However, the key issue is that if you own an FCP based facility and want to add further workstations to your infrastructure there is no 'legal' way to do this since the FCP 7 licence is now no longer available.

Hopefully Apple will realise this and re-instate the ability for clients to purchase FCP 7 so that broadcasters, post houses etc can continue to develop their business. At least then FCP 7 remains a 'current' release with all the usual support from Apple and we can wait and see how things go with FCP X.

I think if Apple did this then the committed FCP user would continue to use FCP 7 and at least Apple can then develop FCP X, release new features and show users where they are going with the product.

Jun 25, 2011 8:09 AM in response to jctez

Thanks jctez. This is possitive just hope the next update is soon! Will stop a lot of the negativity if we see Apple do something about all the complaints.

$499 for automaticduck, some thing that should be possible in FCPX? Can Apple let us know when they will fix the OMF export? Timeline would be great and if this is not going to be addressed then bloody well tell us. Rumours are spreading, the bad ones can't be good for Apples reputation. At least if they let us know what is going on we can plan.

Ajax and Blacmagic are the ones that have to develop the software and drivers for their hardware.

Awsome so some issues will be dealt with lets hope it is done swiftly.

Shocking. This reminds me of earlier this year when I was shopping for a new 15" MacBook Pro. I wanted to see the new HD displays, and compare all of the display options. They didn't even have a MBP with the HD display to look at. They had some in stock, but said I WOULD HAVE TO BUY ONE AND OPEN THE BOX TO LOOK AT IT! I was dumbfounded. As it turns out, after buying the HD MacBook (online, natch) I could see there was no real difference in resolution, and the older non-HD MBP display actually looked better to my eye (I had two side-by-side to compare). If you ask me, the apple store ***** and more often than not the employees on the floor are unhelpful.

Jun 25, 2011 9:00 AM in response to James M.

You're right James ...

In any case, I'm happy to report that Apple did give us a refund.

Hopefully, they'll get their **** together with this product.

Your comments are very useful. It makes me think, when I finish of my current FCP7 projects, it might be worthwhile to get FCPX a spin. The source of some of the reaction is that it will require some rethinking, relearning and new work flow. In the long term what is important is the basic engine behind FCPX. If it is faster and more powerful (using 64 bits) and future oriented, then Apple can with time add the features around it to meet most of the communities needs. I think Apple did a poor job launching FCPX and this caused a lot of negative reaction. Also, to cut off FCP7 (not available) before they have a reasonable program for the high end editors seems like a mistake.

The almost paniced reaction expressed in this forum reflects the concerns of those who have invested their time, money and in some cases businesses in FCP and it is not surprising.

I think the reason it is not available in local Apple Store is that Apple now is a huge corporation and this means the various segments are not so tightly coordinated as one might hope. I watched the Larry Jordan discussion at the LAFCPUG forum and it convinced me Apple is serious about this product and has invested a lot in it. If that commitment carries forward, maybe it will be a great program in the future.
