How do I reconnect media in FCP-X?

i imported a reference movie into fcpX and the audio was missing. well, no problem... lets fix it in quicktime player and 10 seconds later it was all good. well in quicktime that is but not in fcpX. i got a huge red screen but no information what is wrong. since i knew it had to do with the missing audio i simply thought "lets reconnect the media"... sorry folks, but doesn't seam to be included into fcpX.

i checked the manual and no information can be found on how to reconnect media within fcpX.

so my question is "how do i reconnect media in final cut pro x?"

I'm still on the fence. Apple seems to have more arrogance than smarts these days when it comes to professional computer users. I want to continue to use Apple products but they keep adjusting their OS and their products to accommodate IOS users to such an extent they seemed to have lost the all important under current of cool. Creative people are finding other avenues to express themselves.

All these "updates" and more have been part of Media Composer for years.

I don't see many people coming back that quickly...a lot of trust was burned over the last couple of years.

I just used the Relink feature in FCP X 10.0.3 to fix 37 missing clips whose references got lost when I backed up / reformatted / restored the drive containing the media. It seems to have worked as intended.

Right-click the container in the Event Library with the missing media, then choose "Relink Event Files", or select the container and choose "Relink Event Files" from the File menu.

After changing how my videos display changed from proxy to original I have relinked or communicated with FCPX what I want the program to play. The problem with FCPX, It's a GREAT PROGRAM! Old school editing editors will never get it.... oh well they will embrace it or work less.

TOM.... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

Oh ya here is a quick reference guide for missing links http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0.3/#verd1f977a7 its even color coded 🙂

I too was also missing files and needed to reconnect them from an external HDD. I was able to reconnect them by:

1. First attaching the HDD that the files were in.

2. In the PROJECT LIBRARY open the project that is missing the files.

3. HIGHLIGHT all the missing media files

4. Click on the FILE tab and scroll to "RELINK PROJECT FILES" (if the files are not highlighted, this option will not be able to be picked and will just be greyed out)

5. In that menu pick "MISSING" which you should have already highlighted, then click on the "LOCATE ALL"

6. Once you do that another window opens with your drives, select the HDD and/or folder the files are or should be and click CHOOSE.

7. Once Final Cut Pro X verifies the media and matches them, it brings you back to the previous window and just hit "RELINK FILES" and before you know it the files are where they should be, in the project.

Hopefully this helps. I was able to re-connect all my files. Goodluck.
