Will OSX Lion still support FCP Studio?

Actually Apple has specifically and publicly stated in its FAQ that Final Cut Studio 3 (Final Cut Pro 7) will run under Lion. Apple has not mentioned previous versions.

This is a very important question if you eventually have to migrate away from FCPX, you may have to access older projects under FCS3, and if you've done a clean install with Lion, well.... we'll see. You may have to roll back a computer to SNL just to access older projects. What a mess ugggg.....

My understanding is that it will install just fine. The concern seems to be that Lion does not include Rosetta, so it will not run PPC code. A portion of the FCS2 installer used PPC code, but FCS3 does not.

SO... FCS 3 (i.e. FCS 2009) should install and run under Lion.

I appreciate the candor and accuracy of your verb, "should". Somebody will try it I'm sure. Maybe I will when Lion is released.

Mitchell, here is our answer, and, I guess it's good news. From a guy on these discussions who has been beta testing Lion. He reports to have done it several times now.

Thanks, BMW-Bry, Now that Lion has officially been released, it will be interesting to see practical experiences. I hope people will post here how it is working out. Have you tried it yet?

Good point... 🙂 I'd like to have 10 or 15 people saying they've done it! Especially since the release of FCx ("P" dropped intentionally), and the immediate recall of all FCS3 boxes from 3rd party vendors...

I can't believe how much better FCP7 is running on Lion. I'm finising a documentary and trying to do the final renders. For the last few weeks FCP has been crashing half a dozen times a day. Dumped the preferences, cleared out folders, ect. Loaded Lion this morning, both FCP7 and Motion 4 are flying. Hasn't crashed once, renders are going through much faster.

Apple should've just released Lion and not FCPX, and people would be loving them right now.

Interesting. Could you please give us some technical details about your project? How big is the project file? What is the main codec of your source material? What sequence settings are you editing with? What are the tech specs of the Mac you are using?
