Will OSX Lion still support FCP Studio?

With the disaster that FCP X is turning out to be, is there any indication as to whether or not any versions of FCP Studio will still work with OS X Lion? I have a sneaking suspicion that it will not, considering the approach Apple has taken with the FCP X release, but I haven't heard anything definitive yet. I'm hoping Apple will come out with some kind of statement regarding FCP X soon, because the way this release has been handled is absolutely bizzare. If there is no intention of continuing to support the professional community, just say so, and everyone can move on to something else.

I can't believe how much better FCP7 is running on Lion. I'm finising a documentary and trying to do the final renders. For the last few weeks FCP has been crashing half a dozen times a day. Dumped the preferences, cleared out folders, ect. Loaded Lion this morning, both FCP7 and Motion 4 are flying. Hasn't crashed once, renders are going through much faster.

Apple should've just released Lion and not FCPX, and people would be loving them right now.

Hey Stike, thanks for the info! One question though... just prior to Lion, when you were experiencing all the crashes, did you update to the latest Snow Leopard 10.6.8? Did you experience the same problems on 10.6.7?

I'm just hesitant to get a download-only OS for my Mac. I'd rather have a physical storage medium at hand - just in case.

Apple states there are ways to repair your harddisk in a worst-case scenario; but since my trust in Apple has been seriously damaged I'll be waiting at least for the announced thumb drive with Lion OS.

Lion and iMovie 06 work well together.

I have played around with iMovie 06, Final Cut Express 4, iMovie 11, and FCPX, and have found that all four work with Lion.

In fact, I had so much fun playing around with iMovie 06, which I hadn't touched for a long time, I am looking for a small project to do in it.

Mac Pro 8 Core.

Processor 2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon

Memory 16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC

Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB

8 terabites

My project is a 45 min documentary, with a great deal of motion graphics using the 3d camera, mostly tracking shots over text. I tried to both export full videos, and render the Motion Projects in the timeline. Several times the Motion exporting would freeze. Or I would render the Motion projects files in the FCP7 timeline, and it would freeze then. Knock on wood, but I haven't had to force quit FCP7 today.

Project File 3.5mb

Sequence Settings for both Motion and FCP7

Frame 960x720

Editing Timebase: 59.94

Compressor: ProRes4444

HD 8 Terra(4x2terra)

Video is DVCPROHD 720p 24frames, and a mix of file video I converted to ProRes4444.

My only guess would be that becuase Motion is so Vram heavy, maybe Lion improved the graphics card processing. All I know is that I'm showing the film in a week, and I'm not worried anymore if everything would be rendered in time.

On a side note, if you have a dual screen editing setup. The "full screen" mode is jacked and will only take advantage of one monitor. This is especially annoying when you're trying to watch Quicktimes on your second montior.

Cheers

Trying to delete preference files for FCP 7.0.3 but can't find them on the system now. FCP will not even boot.

Any ideas? I'm knee deep in projects and this can't happen. I know I shouldn't have upgraded to Lion without knowing for sure, but it seems people were having good luck with it.

After loading the plugins, it sits on the final Final Cut Pro small square box and gives me a beach wheel and remains unresponsive. Any suggestions?

i tried to find the prefs and couldn't find them either after installing Lion.

I trashed the render files, tried to reattach media to a backup drive, updated my quicktime codecs, reinstalled final cut studio on top of lion, even though fc studio was already installed to no avail.

right now i am backup up all my files and then going to reinstall snow leopard and then reinstall final cut studio to go back to the way things were before i installed lion. this has literally taken the past 12 hours of trying workaround and now finally reinstalling sno leopard.

good luck getting your fc7 projects to work, mine are all buggy now.

doesn't render properly, doesn't all me to reconnect media and gives me "general error" when trying to render or playback in timeline.

however if i make new sequences from scatch, they work fine. but copying and pasting from old sequences into new sequences doesn't work either.

Sorry to hear that, but I'll ask the same question to you. Could you please give us some technical details about your project? How big is the project file? What is the main codec of your source material? What sequence settings are you editing with? What are the tech specs of the Mac you are using?

Can everybody who discover bugs please include some technical details about the project, video codec, software versions, and hardware?

Will OSX Lion still support FCP Studio?
