Those that have been B.M.&G'ing over FCP X can say what they want, that's their right.

Reading all the negative says only one thing about these "Pro's" they are lazy.

They like the old interface of FCP, they are use to it. If one does not grow, one dies.

Who cares if the new interface is similar to iMovie. If you are not willing to learn, they

so be it. It's your choice, move on or get out of the way. You will lose $$$.

I'm not an Apple guru, or Apple nut user. When Commodore Amiga went out of business,

I had only one choice Mac. I had to learn software for both video and audio. I did.

I have not stopped learning, even at age 65.

I have taken the time to learn the new interface of FCP "X" In two hrs, I'm back up to speed.

Learn it and grow.

Do you have any idea how insulting your post is? If you are so happy, go ahead and edit. The people here are not complaining about the new interface, and having to learn something new, we are complaining because we have lost features that are necessary for our professional level post workflows.

We cannot capture from or edit to tape. We cannot do Multi-Cam. We cannot do proper color correction because it does not have true video outputs.

And honestly I have vast reservations about the new interface, and it's efficiency.

To call us lazy is insulting, and you are the one who needs to grow up.

@ Russ:

The UI is irrelevant… it's the lack of features that are upsetting professionals. Imagine if Adobe released Photoshop CS6 and removed all of the tools except the brush and eraser tool, you couldn't open older Photoshop documents and couldn't print or export for web. Do you know how much damage that would do to people's livelihood? The same thing applies to Final Cut. People base their careers on these software packages. When a company releases a version that lacks the tools necessary to perform their job, people get scared. Do they have to learn a new piece of software now? will all their equipment work? what am I going to tell the client? How much money is it gong to cost to change over? How long will my current systems hold out? Will the new version be ready for professional use before then? what about volume licenses?

Apple did a great job developing FCP and FCS. They build themselves a fantastic market and had one of the top professional apps for editing. They also had one of the top Compositing tools in the business too. Now, go find me a Shake user, and ask them what Apple thinks of Pro Users… that is, if you can find one.

Russ: You have completely missed the point! It's got nothing to do with the new interface or not wanting to learn how to use it. Professional editors have to accept delivery of shots from camera teams and have to deliver their edited video to other collaborators and eventually to a TV station or a distribution company. In FCPX: Apple has removed the ability to import from many types of professional cameras, Apple has removed OMF export and therefore the ability to deliver to the sound department, Apple as removed the ability to pass the project on to a professional colourist for grading, Apple has removed the ability to view materials on a broadcast quality monitor, Apple has removed the ability to playout to any of the tape based systems required for delivery by the TV stations, etc., etc., the list just seems to go on and on. While all these professionally required features have been dropped, what's been added is import from iMovie and export to Youtube and iPhone. By dropping these functions and adding consumer functions instead, Apple has repositioned FCPX as a prosumer solution rather than what was promised; an upgrade to a professional video editing solution.

Russ: "If one does not grow, one dies." - That is precisely why everyone is so angry! FCP7 will not be developed any further and will not "grow", FCPX does not have the tools to do the job. So your advice is to switch to a different editing software or die!

Yes, absolutely I loved Shake, and have you seen how much Nuke is now?

Apple bought shake just for the QMaster Technology, and just killed the program, though at least with Shake they gave the source code to companies that had subscriptions, so they had something to work with for a while until an alternative was released, we are left with an EOL Final Cut Pro 7 and some expensive solutions to replace them with (AVID especially, though the whole Production Suite from Adobe is not exactly cheap either [I only own After Effects out of it])

Absolutely. this is the issue that has many professionals scared to death: Zero transition time. I always make it a point to wait a year after release before upgrading to a new version software. This usually give enough time for the kinks and bugs get worked out. The problem with FCPX is that I don't see this being ready for several years.

Jun 23, 2011 9:55 AM in response to Bob Coulter

so. I am just downloading Avid Media Composer. It's not as cheap as FCPX but it's looking very professional.

Last 24 hours I had the occasion for testing FCPX without buying it - and I am glad :-)

Glad that I haven't bought this iMovie.

Has anyone seen the very nice presets for the credits? Beautiful. Grandma will love them. And pictures? You cannot browse through folders with your stock material you have edited and finished with Photoshop. NO! You only can browse through the iPhoto's pixx. Unbelievable. Which professional uses iPhoto????

Yes. Apple will say: "wait, wait, wait. There are several updates coming along the next 2 years"

2 Years???? Will Apple invite us all to make holidays at the Bahamas for TWO years? Ok. I will come. Thanx Mr. Jobs.

The download of AvidMediaComposer is finished now.

Nice: Fast, fluid, and promising - especially combined with the stunningly priced Motion.

New interface, new paradigms, lot to learn.

Apple had to come out with something - and they released this when they felt it had some wings.

To some this is a half-baked product, and for the big-rig studios there are many show-stopping missing features (which many apparently confuse with "dropped" features, like there was some mechanism in place which would forever keep them out of FCP X). Many of these missing features will become available (from Apple or other parties), the app will evolve, and become more pro along the way. I don't worry too much. Fun to tinker with right now.

This I don't have faith in. Show me where the "missing" features in Quicktime X were added in the past 2 years.

Some, like copy and paste are returning in Lion, but again that is still only a very small subset of it's own features.

Jun 23, 2011 12:20 PM in response to Jonah Lee Walker

...Question is: Why has Apple deleted the very important features? Why haven't they heard what the users are saying? Apple could wait for a better release (they already have it in their drawers). They are waiting for the update in half a year to releas no. 10.5 you can buy at the AppStore.

My Answer is: $$$$$$$$
