Macbook Keyboard changed

I opened my 2008 Macbook this am to find that my keyboard has been reconfigured and has some chinese characters. It is difficult to add punctuation because some of it is not there. How can I reset my keyboard to default? I clicked :reset:. Imput Source is - US keyboard.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Go to system prefs/language & text/input sources and make sure that ONLY the box for US is checked.

What do you see when you type "asdfg"? Copy/paste it here.

US is the only thing listed and I believe I have the same issues as the original poster. shift-2 gives " @ is the button to the right of the letter P, asdf and the rest of the letters are fine, + is in the colon:s spot and the colon is in the apostrophe:s spot as you can see, the parenthsis are shift 8 and 9. There are a few other changes as well.

It sounds like your machine thinks you have a Japanese keyboard type (JIS)

The OP's problem solved itself somehow, via restarting, etc.

Here is some older info, not sure how much it will help with 10.9:

If no luck, you might try a safe boot or eventually a reinstall
