Updated to 10.6.8, now I can't print

Have run applejack, reset printing system & reinstalled printer (FujiXerox 5065II with Fiery RIP), but the print Queue just keeps pausing. The error_log gives this: printer-state-message="/usr/libexec/cups/backend/lpd failed"

Does anyone have a similar problem or found a workaround?

thanks.

We are having major problems with the print queues pausing on those machines (iMacs, Mac Pros, Mac Mini Servers, and XServes) where we applied the OS X 10.6.8 update. Machines without the update are printing fine. Those machines with trouble now, were fine until we applied the update and they stopped printing. The printer is a Konica Minolta BizHub 353P. We need a fix soon Apple!!! We are dead in the water with those machines affected by the update error. I can't understand why a perfectly running machine winds up working worse after an OS update. Shouldn't these updates improve on the machine operation, not reduce its function? Don't you people ever check these things before releasing a final update? Come on Apple get it right!

I have exactly the same error message. I have a macbook with an Epson SP RX650 printer attached. Neither Epson nor Apple solutions have fixed the problems. I'm afraid most of the fixes I have read are far too technical for me to understand. I need Apple to acknowledge the problem and get working on it. Now they want to charge me for technical assistance. I have been an apple user since the 1980's but the love affair is fast coming to an end. Surely Apple could add a "Report a Problem" to their downloads as they do in Itunes. I have found it almost impossible to get help from them. I'm far from impressed. They have to make fault reporting simpler so they know what the problems are that they create with these upgrades! Very disenchanted with Apple!

That error message has been a problem for various Epson users at different points during Snow Leopard. It is most likely a driver problem that Epson will have to address. Apple does not write the printer drivers.

You can and should submit bug reports and other feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

I doubt it will make you feel any better, but I had the same problem with my SP 1280 and a previous release of the Epson drivers.

Did you by any chance update to the recently released Epson drivers 2.7? If that is the case, that may have caused the problem. There maybe something wrong with the driver for you printer in that update.

I see that Apple still has the Epson 2.6 drivers available for download at http://support.apple.com/kb/DL900.

I have also seen cases where one of the update scripts did not run when updating Epson drivers.

Just to confirm: After 10.6.8, couldn't print to a networked HP Laserjet CP4520 at the college I work for. The printer would pause as soon as the print job started and if I clicked resume, it would pause again. Oddly, I COULD print to a really old HP Laserjet 4000 series on the same network.

Installed the Repair10.6.8.dmg mentioned previously in this thread. Fixed!

This really begs the question involving how operating system updates are tested before they are released to users.
