How to change Apple ID on iPhone

I had to change my email address and I've also changed it in iTunes, however now I can't log into iTunes to purchase apps from my iPhone. It still shows my old Apple ID and I can't figure out how to change it. I've synced my phone with computer but doesn't help.

Thanks a lot for that clear information Kiwiohone4, Apple staff was enable to give me any clear answer on the topic!

My problem is that I created an ID years ago using a nickname which isn't an email address; Apple accepted it at that time, but now it is not possible to choose anything different than an email address. I don't remember why I had to change my old ID (nickname) into my email address, and now according to your explanation I have not any solution other than forget my applications even those I had to pay. True?

Thank you again for your help

Wow!!! Thank you so much! The guy at the Apple Store didn't help with this one, and you did it in a minute!!! One thing I would add, just for anyone else who is as un-savvy as I am, you're talking about going into settings on the phone, not on the computer! It took me a couple of minutes to figure that out (probably because I'm electronically challenged!). But thanks again! This was bugging me so much, and you fixed it!!!

I have strugeled with this Apple ID issue for months now. My original Apple ID shows up even after doing a change. I have been able to use the Store> change Apple ID, but it always reverts back to the original. Over this issue I have purchsed many Apps under various Apple ID's on my phone. My goal is to have one Apple ID, for all of my Apple account and quit tha gussing game on which Apple ID and PW for what account. I have read that I would need to know the Apple ID I used at the time for each App? If this is the cases, we are going to have a problem!

Help....I want my iPhone, iTunes, iCloud, email every thing on one Apple ID. I have call Apple 4 times on this and they have not been able to help me. Now thay want to charge me? Come on Apple, get this figured out or at least have a clear message on how this Apple ID thing works.

You can have those all on one account.

But as has been said, in order to stop pirating software, apps are locked to the account they were purchased in.

So sadly if you made lots of Apple accounts, and then purchased apps under different accounts you cannot undo it.

Thise apps are purchased and forever linked to that account.

Your only choice it to start fresh.

So here is how you fix it.

Take snapshots of all your phones home screens (so you can replace all the apps later)

Log on to your prefered iTunes account in icloud settings.

Back up your iPhone to icloud.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859

(personally I would do a backup to my computer first, then to icloud just in case)

Then reset the iPhone back to when you first got it:

Go to Settings _ Reset _ Erase All Content and Settings

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2110

This will remove everything.

Then restore the settings via iCloud.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859

You could also do this via a computer, but then it is likely that the apps would come back.

So try icloud restore.

It should ask for you icloud (itunes) account details.

If it asks for a different iTunes account details, cancel it, do not add any other itunes account details.

Then no apps from other accounts should be installed.

You can look in the App Store app _ Updates _ Purchased

Here you will find the apps that you bought with this account but are not installed.

In Theory you should be left with a fresh iPhone, with only apps from one iTunes account.

You will have missing apps from the other accounts; but there is nothing you can do.

Apple will not transfer apps to another account.

But you may be able to get a refund for those apps.

Log into one of the other itunes accounts via the iTunes app on a computer; not on an iPad or iPhone.

Click on you name or account name in the top right corner of iTunes store.

This should show account details.

Go to Purchase History, See All

And Report a Problem, you will have to ask for each app for a refund.

Be nice, explain that you got confused by the accounts auto logging you in e.t.c.

And hopefully you get a refund.

Good Luck, and sorry for writing a novel of a reply!

If a user switches between two different app store accounts to purchase/download items, is there a max number of times that one can swap accounts, or is the limit on number of accounts one may switch between (on a single iOS device)? I just do not want to run afoul of any invisible fences.

As far as I know there is no limit.

I have two accounts and switch regularly.

Apps for both accounts also live happily together.
