The share menu is greyed out

Just made my first edit inside final cut x, but the share menu is greyed out. Apple+E is not working and not of the options are showing. I'm i doing something wrong, or is it my installation?

I have found an easy way to fix the problem, but I am hoping someone on here can tell me why it works. I have done this over a dozen times. Anytime my sharing options were greyed out I would turn off the wifi, or disconnect the internet, restart, and all of the options were back to normal. Once I reconnected to the internet they would grey out again. this has worked on all 3 mac that I have running final cut x

This also worked for me. But, I had to find out which of the 50+ clips I had in the short project was bad. I exported an XML file of the project and opened it in a new library. It found all but one clip. I deleted the clip from the project and am now able to share. No more Grayed out menu. I reimported the clip and continued to have problems. There must have been a problem with the file. So, I went to the FCP Original Media folder and renamed the bad file. Back in FCP, I imported the file as if it was a brand new clip, and it is working.

Hi - Am having this problem big time. I think being caused by a slew of XAVC files. Am trying everything and will post if can't figure it out but not sure what this means:

"Exactly, this is the problem. I copied the program over to it's own folder to split between final cut pro x and the final cut pro 7. Everything worked fine, beside the share function. Now i copied it back to the main program folder and everything seems to work fine again.... Thanks all for your help!"

I haven't changed any folders in the applications folder on the HD. FCP X has it's own icon and Final Cut Studio its own folder. Are you suggesting putting the X icon into the 7 folder? Thanks and please clarify because this greying out of the "Share" is killing me. Best, wrossacole

this has happened to me several times and 9/10 times it's because I began editing while the camera/SD card was still connected to my computer. This means instead of importing the clips into the library they stay on the computer/memory card which means you can't export because the media really never got imported.

I wish FCPX would inform you as soon as you started editing "camera clips" to save the heart attack at the end, but the good news is it's a simple fix and all of your edits will stay intact.

1. Make sure original camera/memory card are connected and seen by FCPX (no red "missing" clips)

2. Click on the event folder you are currently working in

3. File

4. Import

5. Reimport from Camera/Archive

Just wait for FCPX to import all the "Camera Clips" and you should be good to go 🙂
