Why won't numbers let me save my spreadsheet?????

I have a spreadsheet that I have been working with for months now. Suddenly Numbers tells me I can't save the file after making changes to it. What is happening. I am a former PC user and while I absolutely love my Mac and wouldn't go back, I must say Numbers and Pages have been a huge disappointment.

Disk Utility can repair permissions without having to reboot the computer (or to shut down running applications). Repairing a Disk, though, does require starting up from a separate disk.

I would still do the copy out recommended by Wayne before repairing permissions, though.

Two other possibilities: Can you Export the file as an Excel file? Can you Save it in iWork '08 format? Either will result in the loss of any Numbers features unsupported in the other applications.

I said "If the OP reboots his computer the spreadsheet he is trying to save will be lost!"

You responded "Disk Utility can repair permissions without having to reboot the computer (or to shut down running applications). Repairing a Disk, though, does require starting up from a separate disk."

Not sure I see the connection, but thanks anyhow.

So out of curiosity I ran verify permissions again after running repair permissions and I get the same long list of errors even though it indicated that these were corrected.

Also one of the errors said, "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Core ...." has been modified and will not be repaired. Should I be worried? I know that Macs are supposed to be relatively free of viruses, but is it possible that I managed to get one of the few that are out there?

As I'm not a sooth sayer, I'm unable to guess which is the used operating system.

The described behavior surfaced here and there since at least january 2009.

We never got a clear explanation of this oddity.

Try to export in an Excel file.

You may also try to save as a Numbers '08 file.

Try also to export as csv.

After a system reboot, I guess that you will be able to open the 'old' version.

For safe, Apply a Copy Paste into a fresh document.

This would be useful to retrieve the formulas.

Then, open the Excel or the Numbers '08 or the csv file to copy paste the datas in the cells supposed to store raw datas. The formulas will apply upon the new set of datas.

Sorry to hijack this post, but I found it while searching for my own problem, and it's so similar, I thought it might be better just to reply here?

I have the same saving issue, except that my error message is Invalid argument.

Will not copy and paste into a new spreadsheet, or export, or create a pdf.

Add that my external drive is not showing up when I plug it in to backup.

Thought that the disk repair solution might do the trick, but no luck. No errors listed.

External shows up in disk repair (though not on desktop, or in finder) as unmounted, but won't allow me to mount.

Thoughts?? Help??

Why won't numbers let me save my spreadsheet?????
