How to change iCloud email address?

I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

If you

1. Log out of iCloud on your phone (and turn off 'Find My iPhone' if it's on.

2. Go to http://appleid.apple.com and change your non-Apple email address which is your ID to another non-Apple email address

3. Log back into iCloud on your phone with the new ID address

then the synced data on your phone will disappear from it when you log out, but will reappear (give it time) when you sign back in. Basically you are changing the login but the actual account remains the same: however the sign out and back in again is necessary for the phone (and any other device) to pick up the new login.

Sigh. A year ago I changed my email and pw on my apple iTunes, etc, ID, but never touched icloud. The address on it is a dead email so no way to get email to me to change that pw I forget! I am not. Allowed to turn off find phone or delete that icloud untill I log in, which I can not. So can not use Facetime either. I changed all this yesterday on my ipad air but can not get it to change on my ipod.

The answer to this has been posted several times on this thread:

1. Go to Manage your Apple ID and EDIT your current Apple ID to the old email address. This is temporary! DO NOT VERIFY IT. Do not change the password: Apple - My Apple ID

2. Go to your device where the old email address is still signed onto iCloud - Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom, and Sign Out/Delete the iCloud account - follow the prompts and type in your current password when asked.

3. Go back to Manage your Apple ID, sign on with the old ID and current password, and EDIT the Apple ID back to the new email address (you may have to verify it again).

4. Go back to Settings>iCloud and sign on with your new Apple ID

If you are indicating that you created a brand new Apple ID a year ago, rather than simply changing your existing ID, then the old Apple ID still exists. In that case you will need to go to Manage your Apple ID and click on RESET PASSWORD for that old Apple ID. If you cannot remember the Security Questions then you will have to contact Apple Support to have them reset so you can reset your password and remove the old iCloud account:

If you are referring to this question (which was written in October 2011 when iCloud was in Beta), then the answer is:

I have the exact same problem. My wife's .me email is attached to my iCloud. No - the iCloud account attached to your wife's @me.com account is your wife's Not only does it make my personal iCloud useless for me, it also locks her out of using her personal .me email address. It really seems this should be a solvable problem.

If you want your own iCloud account, set it up under your own Apple ID. It's that simple.

This solution no longer works. I called in to Apple Support, and had to request TIER TWO support before i was able to get around this problem. Apple has changed the way they address this problem. The work-around that USED TO WORK but NO LONGER WORKS is to temporarily change the apple ID (on a computer) to the old one. If you try that now, you will be told that a verification code will be sent to the OLD ADDRESS. This is not a solution that worked for me, because in my case the old address was no longer in use.

The solution, as of Jan 2 2016 is this:

1. On your device (iPhone, iPad), go to settings, iCloud

2. On the next screen, tap your account near the top. You will be asked for your Apple ID passworrd

3. Enter your CURRENT PASSWORD that you use with your CURRENT APPLE ID (don't worry that the password doesn't match the password as it used to be with your old apple ID. It should accept your current password

4. Once in, you can delete the account, and enter your new Apple ID and password.

Note: if you are concerned about losing any information associated with the old Apple ID, then do a backup to your computer first.

Hi Everyone,

This worked for me:

1. Go to icloud.com

2. Login with your current icloud email

3. Once you login, you will see icons. Click settings.

4. Once you get to settings, you will see beside your picture, "Apple ID, Manage". Click Manage

5. You will see there you can edit your apple ID email.

After all of that, sign out from your account in your mac/iphone/ipad etc. Then sign in using the new e-mail. Everything should be back.
