How to change iCloud email address?
I entered a test address when setting up iCloud, but now cannot find out how to change this to the email I would like with the @me.com ending. Any ideas?

A quick summary:
This threat is about: "How to change iCloud email address?"
bzx has the right answer, everyone. Simply create an e-mail alias, which acts like its own @me.com mail account. You can create up to 3 additional addresses that can be used to send and receive messages. You and your recipients won't know the difference.
There is no way to change an @me.com e- mail address once it's been saved to the cloud. I think discovered a different problem though.
I tried using the same format for my @me account as for my Yahoo account, name.name@me.com
It saved fine but I'm unable to send or receive with the account. For outgoing mail I get an SMTP error. For incoming mail I receive, in my Yahoo account, an undeliverable mail error.
So I think, don't know for sure, that there's a problem with the period in the address prefix.
This the error message I continue to get after creating my @me.com e-mail address.
The connection to the outgoing server "p08-smtp.mail.me.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
I have no idea why this is happening and it happens on my iPad and iPhone.
Me too, I had spent a couple hours trying to find out a way to change my iCloud email address... I had a typo in my name... so after a while I called Apple Support in Europe.
They told me to use the iCloud-System tool on a Mac (latest Mac upgrade) and then login using my Apple ID, then delete the misspelled e-mail address, and then create a new one. I couldn't do this either within a browser or on a PC, Apple support said.
So I checked with my Apple store in town but they didn't upgrade their Macs yet. So I'll have to wait until next week to perform my corrections using their Mac...
Anybody out there for us to post a link with some schreenshots from this iCloud-System tool I mentioned that I could show to the guy at my Apple store?
Thanks, a good weekend to everyone!
I have the exact same problem. My wife's .me email is attached to my iCloud. Not only does it make my personal iCloud useless for me, it also locks her out of using her personal .me email address. It really seems this should be a solvable problem.
Again, Matt's solution does not work for me. After deleting my iCloud account on my iPhone, I am not getting prompted (to enter any e-mail address) when re-installing the account again on my iPhone... All those previous settings are still there...
I made sure that I turned off all services before deleting my account. Also, I did perform a reset on my iPhone... nothing helped.
What are you guys doing different to make this work?
I had the same issue and figured it out! You need to go to the actual apple id page online and change the email address through that. Then go back to your phone, delete the icloud account, and when you sign up again it will have the right email.
Still, in the Apple-ID webpage I can't find any place to change my iCloud email address. The only thing I could change is the apple ID which should be my personal email address...
Anyone could tell me:
1) why deleting the iCloud account does work with some people?
2) why some people seem to be able to change their iCloud email address online?
3) is it possible to delete the iCloud account online?
I am in this mess for some time now... so any significant help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Chris. The way that it worked for me was to have my apple ID and iCloud email address to be one in the same. For example, my apple ID AND iCloud ID we're both a hotmail account that I no longer use. So I went to apples website and changed my ID (which was the old email address) to my current email address. Then, I went to my iPhone and used Matt's solution of selecting delete account under iCloud in settings. Then, you go back into iCloud in the same place under settings and your new email address will show up as whatever email address you edited on your apple ID. I hope that makes sense and I hope it helps. Good luck.
You have to go to my apple ID, sign in with your old information, then you can change your e-mail address. You will have to check your e-mail because you have to verify your new e-mail address. Once you have your e-mail address updated, you can go in and (if the old icloud e-mail is still there, delete that account) set up your icloud by signing in with your new apple id (e-mail address).... note that you will have to update the e-mail address for signing into other area such as game center, itunes, and other apple websites associated with your apple ID.
My Apple ID is where you can manage your apple account and can be accessed here: https://appleid.apple.com/
Matt's post works perfectly. I just tried it and it fixed the issue. If anyone is still having problems, just try again. Go to settings, then click iCloud, then scroll all the way to the bottom and delete account and select keep on iPhone, go back into it and it lets you change your email address. Again, I just tried it and it worked perfect.

It doesn't mess up anything! JUST IN CASE THIS HELPED ME....Go to Settings, then Store, then change your Apple ID. THEN go to iCloud, delete account (keep on iPhone) and sign back in. It's possible it's not working for some of you because your Apple ID is still the old email address.
Let me know if this helps!!
It depends on what the problem is. If you entered a test, or incorrect, apple id in setting up iCloud, then it's a solution. But I agree, that it doesn't solve the problem of having an apple id which is NOT an email address because iCloud requires an apple id with an email address.
If you create and change your Apple ID to a new ID will this impact your previously purchased music, apps, movies, etc? I was under the impression that purchases were tied to the Apple ID.
I had a .mac Apple ID from an old .mac email address but when I stopped paying for MobileMe I switched the email for the ID to my gmail account. When I set up iCloud on iOS5 I was prompted to select a new .me email. I did however cannot send or receive mail as I continually get an incorrect user name or password error message.
