10.6.8 latency issues with ZOOM R16

10.6.8 introduced a ton (Over 100 ms) of latency into my recording chain, essentially creating an 1/8th note delay at some tempos. The update also introduced a bunch of digital noise, so even if I could play ahead, it is impossible to record like this. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I've heard problems with popping audio and dropouts, but nothing pertaining to recording.

Hello,

Yeah I have this problem too, It has had me tearing my hair out pretty much with frustration. Finaly stumbled onto this thread and happy its not a hardware problem as I was about to send my new microphones back as the problem was still there when I got my repaired box back.

It is a tad strange that to use the included sofware I got I had to upgrade my operating sys on the mac, but when you do it makes the r16 incompatible... tried garage band 11 and thought it may help to no avail. If I downgrade my OS back to it's prev version, the R16 works but the software does not.. arg! I am stuck in a crap loop of non compatibilty!

so.. now I know what the problem is I am little reassured that my gear is fine but I am on a recoding schedule for my band and this problem has caused us to be delayed by nearly a month now. I am having to deal with some unhappy people at the moment :/

Snow Leopard 10.6.6 will also do:

I have downgraded for now from 10.6.8 to 1.6.6 and no latency issue now.

However, I have tons of clicks. If I lower my R16 channel input gain a little bit, the clicks are gone.

I've read somewhere that clicks and noise could be related to USB drivers.

Anyone had a similar issue?

By the way, I've downgraded by reinstalling the Snow Leopard DVD and all my applications and settings weren't touched.

Here are the steps:

  1. While OS X is running, insert your OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD.
  2. Double click Install Mac OS X.
  3. Keep the DVD inside your computer while you wait for it to restart.
  4. Wait until the second phase of the installation procedure completes.
  5. You are now downgraded to OS X 10.6.2 (or something less than 10.6.6).
  6. Download and apply the OS X 10.6.6. combo update to bring you back to 10.6.6.

I am using the Lion 10.7.2 with Cubase 5.5.2 and the R16 hooked to my Macbook Pro with the same drivers as you linked. These are betadrivers, and therefore not completely developed. The latency issues have been dealt with, but other issues such as using the R16 as a control surface to Cubase hasn't yet been developed, and I also experience white loud noise peaks when recording. These peaks are very randomly put and comes in longer takes, but it's serious enough to ruin my track so I have to make a new take with the hope of being lucky not to see any more noise. It buggers the **** out of me, but until we see an official driver on the Zoom webpage, I can almost garantee you guys that these will be problems
