10.6.8 latency issues with ZOOM R16

10.6.8 introduced a ton (Over 100 ms) of latency into my recording chain, essentially creating an 1/8th note delay at some tempos. The update also introduced a bunch of digital noise, so even if I could play ahead, it is impossible to record like this. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I've heard problems with popping audio and dropouts, but nothing pertaining to recording.

I also have the same problem. When not recording, just mixing, and such, everything works fine, but even 1 channel recording has the latency, and noise problems in Live. I even tried Garageband just to test the driver, and it also had the problem. Anyway, I am going to write to both Apple, and Zoom, just to tell them, this is a major issue, and should be fixed quickly.

By the way, any experiencies with this issue on Lion?

I have the exact same issue! I hadn't had my Zoom up running as audio-interface since I've got MAC OS X 10.6.8 and I though it was a bad connection in my Zoom, so I've been all over the Zoom inside to find a weak link with some electronic tools, but nothing appeared, and then I decided to look online for solutions or similar issues! We need to report this to Zoom and Steinberg!

I've written to Zoom some time ago to and got the following e-mail:

Dear Mr. Rasmus Nielsen,

Thank you for using our product.

First of all, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

We are seeking a solution to settle the matter. We will inform you as soon as we find answer to the problem.

Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely yours,
ZOOM Corporation <<

the solvation will be to check into http://www.zoom.co.jp/downloads/r16/software/ everyday, but sadly it takes some time to find the core of the issue and then fix it, make it a new driver and set it up... But check in recently, and when the new driver is avaible, the issue can be solved by downloading!

I have the same issue with the same response. I've read forums that try to solve it by downgrading usb 2 prefs to earlier versions or deleting parts completely. I'm not that savvy and would rather wait for an official response, not knowing what effects may occur by messing with the system. One solution might be to downgrade the whole system to 10.6.7?

Thank you!

I have downgraded for now to 1.6.6 and no latency issue now.

However, I have tons of clicks.

I've read somewhere that clicks and noise could be related to USB drivers.

Anyone had a similar issue?

By the way, I've downgraded by reinstalling the Snow Leopard DVD and all my applications and settings wasn't touched.

Here are the steps:

  1. While OS X is running, insert your OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD.
  2. Double click Install Mac OS X.
  3. Keep the DVD inside your computer while you wait for it to restart.
  4. Wait until the second phase of the installation procedure completes.
  5. You are now downgraded to OS X 10.6.2 (or something less than 10.6.6).
  6. Download and apply the OS X 10.6.6. combo update to bring you back to 10.6.6.
