I am seeing that the "Other" items in the capacity bar of my iPhone (in iTunes) is taking up a bit of space. How do I know what the "Other" capacity consists of? I would like to free

forgot about how to make sure the camera roll photos are backed up and get reloaded back onto the phone after the restore.
if i restore to new device? how am i going to restore back my contact, calender, etc?

I've tried pretty much every trick in this thread- nothing works. I've got 8.3 gb of "Other". In fact, when I restored, the Other was still there- BEFORE I synched from backup, which suggests that even starting from scratch (which is completely unacceptable for me anyway) might not work work either?
All it did was temporariliy rise to 9.4gb, and then back down to 8.3 for some mysterious reason.
What else can I do? 😟
It appears that the problem lies in iOS itself and is related to wireless downloading/updating apps and iOS itself. The "other" is cached material from the updates. Not sure why restoring the device wouldn't work for some folks -- that's frustrating.
