Is there an iPhone antivirus App?

I hear warnings of virus and malware threats for smartphones, let alone hacking (all the media coverage here in the UK at the moment about mobile phone hacking!) I see that security software companies are offering software for Android and Windows Mobile phones, but can find nothing for the iPhone 4.

Searching on these forums people say the iPhone is safe so long as its not "Jailbroken" ...... what does that mean?

Is there an anti malware App for the iPhone? With all the protection that is needed for PC's venturing onto the Internet these days I do wonder with a phone that can do the same.

iPhone 4, Windows 7

Ok, welcome to the discussions.

If you read the entire thread there is true insight into it. But it is a pretty cold thread and you probably won't get your retraction as I believe that user has moved on.

There will be newer posts regarding viruses and you can provide your insight with them and actually have people read them.

I'm not personally concerned that the thread is old and I didn't imagine for a second I would get a retraction, I only posted to set the record straight for future readers. If you/others don't want people posting to old threads, then someone should close them to new posts. Alternatively, users that don't want to get further emails, such as yourself, should unsubscribe to follow-up posts to this thread. I'm also acutely aware that typical Apple product user's do not rationally listen to, heed, or accept input that is not strictly pro-Apple. I knew I would regret getting involved in this discussion, or any Apple discussions. I really should have heeded my hunch.

Unlike others here I actually read the entire screed by that user and I checked the link. But your post will now provide information to others who might wander here.

You second post, directed at me, was pointless. If you can point be to a remote exploit that was in existence at that time that would clone a non-jailbroken iPhone (I'm not even sure there was one for jailbroken phones) then provide me with your insight and show me where I was incorrect. And assuming your NSA comment was about the recent Der Spiegel info, how would I have known about that?

Ive never seen a thread with more false information. Just great.

* I love the comments that if you loose information from phising its because your stupid. Very mature and good advice to someone who does not know about phising. The best is phising is not theft of your information, you're giving it away.

So con artists dont go to jail for swindling their victims? Give some thought to your reply before answering. In no way is phising legal nor is limited to your being fooled to voluntarily giving away information. Why do you think they may want your id and pw? The posters comments implies that everyone in the family should have the same level of expertise with digitl devices. Your kids, grand parents, new person to digital devices can never make a mistake, is absolutely unforgiving and unrealistic for the real world.

*iphones are perfectly safe, so you dont need antivirus.

iPhones is one of the least secure handheld devices out there. Any digital device needs protection. Any digital device can be a victim of virus, phising or any other activity where you loose your information.

So many other false or nasty statements. Why should people who need information come to any help site with attitudes like these.

* We were talking about iPhone and now we are talking about Mac?

Does this poster and those that liked it realize you attach your iphone to mac or to a pc to back it up in itunes. Now both devices are at risk. If you solve the problems in your iphone it will not matter the next time you hook up to itunes. If that is not discussed and addressed any advice to fix their iphon is null and void. You better discuss the mac or auxilary devices hooked up to the iphone or you did no service to those that read the thread.

Obviously these people either do not have the patience to give advice or the knowledge in which the thread is discussing. If you dont know or the topic upsets you DONT POST.

You should take your own advice. You know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about; you are just pulling it out of some bodily orifice. Kaspersky recently published their analysis, and found that of 297 malwares identified for smart phones 295 of them attacked only android. And the other two could only attack jailbroken iPhones. Im willing to believe REAL experts in computer security, not some teenager who thinks he or she knows everything. And yes, I am one of those computer security specialists.
