screen has black shadows after upgrade to 10.6.8

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

I just upgraded this machine to 10.6.8.

After booting up I have a whole bunch of black shadows running from the bottom up. not just one pixel wide! But one inch wide and getting smaller as they go up.

A reboot in safe boot makes them go away. Boot in my normal account and they are back.

Anybody any idea?

MBP, MM, MBP - 10.6 + Windooz XP on a hard partition

I had to argue with them a bit, but apparently there was a recall at some point and after getting up to level 2 it worked. I did have Applecare though.
