Attachments sent from Mail do not show up in Outlook

Have been running into a problem wherein attachments sent from Apple Mail do not show up for Outlook users they are sent to. If I switch and send the same attachment via GMail for instance it shows up fine. Apple Mail locally shows the attachment as having been sent. Anyone seen this before or have any thoughts on how it might be fixed?

Just my theory. I think the issue may have something to do with older email clients, like Outlook Express, which people I know still use, not being able to view certain file types. Like in my case, I sent a message with a tiff image attached and the recipient couldn't see it. When I sent a jpeg along with the tiff, only the jpeg showed up in Express. That leads me to think that Express doesn't have the ability to render a tiff image. When I resent it using Outlook 2011, the tiff showed up and I think that is because Outlook uses html format by default unlike Mail's rich text, so it is like sending a webpage where Express doesn't need to be able to read tiff files. That is just my theory.

Under Mountain Lion and Mail I have tried frist to write the mail, set the signiature and then first below signiature attach the file. Then everything works at a Outlook for MAC 2011 reciepient.

If you in the text editor choses share, and thereby the attachment commes first in the mail,

the remainder of the mail is recieved as attachment in Outlook - which isn't satisfactory.

But skipping the share command makes everything working correctly.

Don't know if this is still an active post, but I'm curious if an answer has been found. I am unable to attach photographs to my email sent by Mac Mail, and have them appear as attachments on my wife's PC, using Outlook. I am currently OSX 10.7.5. Reading through this thread, the only things that worked for me were to "imbed" the photos in a folder and attach the folder, or to use Attachment Tamer. I have just shelled out $15 for Attachment Tamer, since this seemd to be the cleanest solution, but I remain puzzled why Apple has not fixed this problem.

Nice to see this thread still active, if only to hopefully keep the issue alive in Apple's queue, though after such a long time I'm beginning to wonder if they're ever going to bother. Every time there's a new patch or release this is the first thing I check and have always been dissapointed.

We ended up getting a 3rd party plug-in just to make the issue go away. Really annoying that it was necessary but not quite as annoying as having to deal with dissapearing attachments.

I would not suggest attaching the folder and not compressing the attachments for two reasons:

  1. You will have a larger files size attachment than if you compressed it, a real issue for recipients as every email service varies in message size restraints.
  2. you risk the contents of your attachements becoming corupted in transit, and it happens often – especially to art file types like psds, eps', and AI files.
