Logic 9 not working in Snow Leopard

Hi, I'm now running 10.6.8 and Logic 9 after using a solid Logic Pro 8 & Tiger. Much to my disappointment the upgrade to Snow Leopard using Logic wasn't great, I couldn't close projects and there were some bugs. Now upgraded to Logic 9 I can't even do anything from save, bounce, close, it just gives me an instant crash, it doesn't even hang.

I understand many people are experiencing some similar issues. I really need to find an explanation and above all a solution?

Do I revert back to the old operating system & run Logic 8? But then won't able to use Motion 5 etc... I feel real stuck here!!!

Any help or feedback will be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you for your help and input guys.

I've had to revert back to Leopard & Logic 8.2 for now. I have projects to finish and the L9 & SL put a serious spanner in the works!! And I'm still baffield at the problem I faced and disappointed I couldn't fix the issue.

Will look at the update to Lion and try Logic 9 again sometime in the future.

When you get time, install a fresh install of OSX onto a external USB drive, and play around until you get it to work right. Or make a clone of your current drive & play around with that.

To boot from that external by holding Option during boot & selecting the volume.

My guess is that it's some hardware like a USB HUB, or a keyboard or mouse etc, that had older software installed that just isn't working out under 10.6.

All very interesting but sad. Look at the Logic Pro help forum and there are similar problems, I bought SL but may only install it as a way to get Lion installed-if Lion works for Audio/MIDI, which considering the poor results in SL seems rather unlikely. Good luck getting it fixed Johncito, the help you are getting here is great, try Pancenter and AussieDJ's suggestions, they know what they are talking about and kind enough to share the knowledge.

Hi, Johncito.

I've been reading about your problems. I've got 802 running fine under SL. I got it when it first arrived and did incremental system and logic updates.

Pan Centre may know if the following is correct. Are all the system updates necessary? I'm thinking that if Johncito's missed an early one, it might have a crucial something not covered in later updates. I'd have thought all later updates would cover old ground, but I'm unsure.

Another suggestion. Did you upgrade the driver for your audio interface?

Also, rescan all your plugins after the upgrade. Sometimes either the new OS or Logic gets confused and crashes.

As mentioned previously by Aussie DU, the latest iLok software will also be necessary.

Hope you get it all sorted and get back to making music.
