Black iPad Screen, just the backlight on...

So my daughter tells me her ipad is not working anymore and is nearly in tears. So like the good dad I am, I begin to surf the web for any advice on the black light issue.

After 20 minutes of searching for a solution and I came across this ridiculous method of hitting, dropping, smacking, and punching the ipad near the jack. I said what the heck and began to hit and smack the device but had no luck! As I was getting ready to tell my daughter it was shot I decided to try one last time. I gave it a firm strike with the palm of my hand on the jack and the apple popped up on the screen.

It freaken worked!

Same thing happened to my kids iPad 2 ...... tried the mentioned "technique" by gently tapping the headphone corner & gently dropping on the carpet..... to more aggressive tapping & dropping. Needless to say now the backlight is gone & screen is completely black. I still hear notifications pinging, but no video. There is definitely a corrilation between the headphone corner & the light, unfortunately for me, IT'S WORSE NOW.

This seems like a very elementary thing to consider, but does the iPad's battery have a decent charge? Can you plug it into the wall socket with the power adapter for a while and see what happens?

Did you get this resolved? My screen turned black too. still can sync and back up but cannot see anything. I tried doing a hard reset (sleep+home button together) but nothing happened.

I have exactly the same issue. The iPad made through a full recovery, but the screen continues to be just black. Backlight works, though unlocking doesn't.

Just try to keep the iPad on and try to make the battery drown 0% .... It worked for me this way ... N (if i hv) remove jailbreak n update to latest iOS ....

Questions:

1) yours a 64GB unit?

2) what did you do after draining the battery? plug onto the wallplug to charge and few minutes later, it switch ON by itself? and the screen came back ON?

The tip to "give it a tap" totally worked and saved me the trouble of trying to restore.

This worked for me too. i gave it a little bump and dropped it on the floor, gently of couse and voila!!!!! thank you !!!!!!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I had the exact same issue and the corner tap fixed it. I was all set to go out and purchase a 3rd gen model, but this lets me save my pennies a bit longer.

Works , punch the corner of the screen where the headphone jack is! THANKS!
