Is Logic 8 Compatible with 10.7 Lion?

I upgraded to Lion without checking Logic's compatibility, I thought Logic 8 should work just fine, since Sibelius, Pages, etc. etc. all work. I really, really hope Apple can make a patch that lets Logic 8 keep working - it just doesn't seem worth it to ask $450 to be able to use Logic with a new OS. I really don't need the new stuff in Logic 9. This is really not good.

I had MacBook, MacBook Pro, Logic 8,bought both tutorial books, updated to Snow Leopard, updated to Lion. Now Logic 8 and Mainstage will not work - this is not good. Probably time to make the switch to ProTools

I would strongly suggest heading over to the AVID forum before even thinking about Pro Tools...

Page after page of nothing but issues and even the AVID support staff there spells it out plainly that "Pro Tools is in need of a TOTAL REWRITE" because its limited to 3GB (no 64 bit), cant not handle more than 2 or 3 VI's at once on ANY system (poor RTAS performance and AVID tells you to go buy other software like VE Pro for $300 or Reaper to host VI's via ReWire 😮), and constant/random crashes... and it IS still crippled/limited on track count and ADC (limit is 4000 samples)

$599 for that? (yes...$600!!!)

You would be MUCH better off $$$ wise getting the upgrade to Logic 9. I was a long time Pro Tools user and RAN to Logic and have never looked back... trust me it IS a night and day difference

Logic 9 runs fine on Lion... Pro Tools 9 is BETA on Lion and is slow and glitches badly

All this BS about Pro Tools being the industry standard is total crap... Pro Tools HD is what they are refering to... at a STARTING price of about $10,000 to $30,000

For those of you who haven't switched to Lion because of the "incompatabilty" of Logic Pro 8, this might help:

I got a new Mac which already had Lion installed, so when I tried to install Logic Studio Pro 8 using the original DVD's, I got all kinds of errors that the program wasn't compatible. The solution turned out to be REALLY simple! YEEY.

I installed Rosetta (only this and nothing more) in Lion using my original Snow Leopard install DVD (you can find it under "Additional Software"). Rebooted and guess what? Studio Logic Pro 8 installed and runs without ANY problem...

Yes, last year babowa also demonstrated that FCE can be installed into Lion with Rosetta installed from a Snow Leopard Install DVD:

This "fix" only works for those versions of applications that are Intel-ready, but have installers that have PPC code in them.

It works. Went back to Snow Leopard and loaded Rosetta. Presto. YOu're now able to load Logic. Thanks for the tip

Actually my tip was wrong, but your application of it does work.

babowa has corrected my misconception that installing Rosetta into Lion would allow PPC installer to function -- IT DID NOT for his attempt to install FCE.

Of course, installing Rosetta into Snow Leopard would indeed allow PPC installers, as well as PPC applications to function in Snow Leopard.

Once installed in Snow Leopard, if the application is Intel-Ready, it should continue to function when you update to Lion.

Now if PatrckNL has successfully installed Studio Logic Pro 8 into Lion with Rosetta installed, maybe more research is appropriate.

Here's my experience with Logic and Lion.

When I upgraded my old MacBook Pro (which already had Logic 7 & 8 installed) to Lion both Lion programs ran without any noticable problems.

However, when I bought my new MacBook Pro with Lion pre-installed, I couldn't run the Logic installer because it was PPC code. I tried the suggestion of putting my new laptop in Firewire disk mode and installing to that from a system with Rosetta (PPC emulation for Intel), but the Logic installer said that I had to install Logic to the current System disk, so that didn't fly.

I read on here that installing Rosetta into Lion would allow the PPC installers to run. I was frankly sceptical, but tried it anyway. I was able to install Rosetta into Lion using the Addional or Optional installs (can't remember exactly what it was called) on the Snow Leopard Install disk. This then allowed me install most of Logic 7 (a few bits and pieces of PPC code wouldn't install). And as I type this, I am currently installing Logic 8 - so far no problems.

Apple should stop with this upgrading every 6 months it takes longer to learn a system.
