Facetime Server Encountered Error

Hello,

Just upgraded my SL to Lion and I am experiencing 2 problems.

1. FaceTime: "Server Encountered An Error Processing Registration. Please Try Again Later."

2. Screensaver Starts in the middle of the work. Tried deleting SystemPreferences.

The Problem #2 started to happen after I upgraded to 10.6.8. I have even discussed this earlier in this forum but that doesn't resolved this issue. I thought maybe an upgrade to Lion will fix this problem but it doesn't.

Above link is for the Problem #2 started with my SL after upgrade to 10.6.8.

Is there a fix?

Please help.

Just tried this experiment.

1. MB (FT works) [Don't wanted to screw things up]

2. MBP (FT no luck yet)

Both machines are backed up with CCC from SL 10.6.8 and stored in to WD 1TB HDD with 2 Partiitions and each of 500GB. I already upgraded both to Lion. I keep the backup of both that I've made last week in case.

Since my MBP's FT not working but everything else working fine, I made another backup of my lion to another WD 500GB HDD if everything goes wrong, I can have my system where I was.

After all the discussion, maybe a clean installation will help fix the problem.

Experiment 1: [OVERWRITE SL UPGRADE]

I formatted MBP and restored to SL 10.6.8 and tried FT which I have in it works perfectly. And I upgraded to lion now and MBP still face FT problem. Same server connection error.

Experiment 2: [CLEAN INSTALL]

I installed SL accompanied with my MBP and upgraded to 10.6.8 and upgraded to lion and still NO LUCK.

That means for my MBP either upgrade from existing system or clean installation method doesn't fix my problem. So I used my Lion backup and restored my MBP to where it was before this experiment.

Remember Macbook's FT on lion still works and but MBP doesn't. However to make things clear both MBP and MB are in the same network.

Surely I think there is a BUG in it.

C'mon guys. Don't wanted to do a clean installation just for FT. But I still face another problem with my screensaver. That is just another topic.

How is your screensaver behaving? Mine start abruptly in the middle of my work.

Facetime 1.1 is part of Lion and cannot just be 'deleted' without using terminal.

Even if you do delete it, you cannot download a new version since the Mac App Store only offers version 1.0.2

The official feedback page - http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.htmldoes not yet include Lion - OS X 10.7 as an option. It only includes Snow Leopard 10.6.7 and 10.6.8

If you are a registered developer you can file a bug report viahttp://bugreporter.apple.com

Previous solutions offered on the discussion boards involving either deleting certificates or plist files are not relevant anymore and will not work. This is a new issue and will probably be fixed by either a new version of Facetime appearing in the Mac App Store, or an OS X system/security update.

To anyone thinking of completely reinstalling their version of Lion, please think again. It will probably not solve the problem, and if Facetime not working is the only problem you are encountering, then it is definitely not worth it. The phrase 'Sledgehammer to crack a nut' springs to mind 🙂

As a 1st day release, there are bound to be some issues!

You can guarantee that Apple know about them, and are dealing with them as we speak, so just hang in there, and a fix will arrive very soon.

If you read my post, you'll notice I didn't do 2 experiments or mention "clean install" either..

I actually advised against reinstalling the system since it's not guaranteed to resolve any of the issues.

I think you might have meant to send your response to @tmariaz

Never mind 🙂

Let's hope we all get this problem sorted out soon!

I think it's safe to assume that most people tried restarting thier macs before anything else.

I guess it's also safe to assume that the servers dealing with the Mac App Store are totally different from the backend system Apple uses to authorise Apple IDs.

If the problem were that simple then it would have been solved already.

The most likely explanation is that since this is a dot release, there are still a few bugs lurking.

These will be addressed very quickly I'm sure, so we will just have to wait and see what Apple says/does.

Well Apple isn't suggesting a direct installation as an Official method.

Prescribed Apple method is upgrade from SL 10.6.8. That is why I say CLEAN.. no offence 🙂

I can give it a try with a clean boot from making a bootable disc but I hate to do that again coz I already installed 3 times so far and that is really frustrating to do it again n again.

Anyway let us wait for Apple to respond...

Also I think it is so lame for Apple to just make us reinstall everything from scratch without installing SL. Apple's info is contradictory in this case, isn't it?

Installing SL 10.6.8 is a prerequiste for installing Lion.
