Can you confirm that you were actually CHARGED both times?  Or is it smart enough to realize you already purchased Lion once?

you will be charged twice if you buy lion first and then lion+server addon

maybe other way it will not charge twice, who knows

Does it possibly show up differently in your 'Purchased' tab when you buy the combo?

For instance, in my purchase History I have OS X Lion and OS X Lion Server.

But if you buy the combo pack like it suggests, do you only have one entry?  Or do you still get the two entries like I have?

no, there is lion twice and lion server once

So I grabbed my MacBook and told it to install Lion.  However, once it was downloaded I stopped the process and copied Lion OS X to my Server, as well as the OS X Server I bought on my iMac.

It is installing like it should.  I am thinking Apple needs to review how the App Store handles the purchasing and such.

Sounds cool but I installed Lion on the imac so it deleted the install file...

I got the server install file saved but i am one lion install file short...

I have bought the Lion first (for my workstations), and installed.

Then I tried to buy the server. Which ever way (also here described), I've always be warned, that I have to buy the Lion twice.

If you have a look to your order history in iTunes, you will see, that Apple tooks the money for the Lion OS twice!

    :-(

Same here. Installed it on my desktop and then proceded to install server on a test mini... had to buy twice.

Thanks guys for taking one for the team and finding out. I really hope you guys get a refund.

I have emailed the support for clarification as well since I am not happy to spend twice the amount...

    Got reply lol:

Our engineers are diligently working toward a resolution, so that everyone can submit their claim as soon as possible. So, we ask that you please try to submit a claim at a later time.

So, as many of you have seen, your app store purchased tab shows one lion server and two copies of lion.  Guess the trick here is to buy lion server first. But they have a process problem and the app store is not recognizing the prior lion purchase as satisfying the prerequisit for lion server.  Apple, hope you read this.

For refunds, I was referred to the email support for app store purchases in the iTunes support area. We'll see how that goes.

Same issue here, I spent an hour on the phone with a rep from Enterprise Sales, and he is trying to chase an answer for me.  (I haven't made the $79 combined purchase.)  The bright spot is that to this point, everyone at Apple has agreed that this isn't the desired behavior and I shouldn't have to pay for a second Lion license.

I'll update with whatever the response is, supposed to be by Friday.

The EULA reads to me in simple terms, that you can run the same software on three computers.

For example having a server and two clients, a one time purchase of the server and client version should be sufficient.

Apple should not charge for the additional clients. I understand there are several ways to cope with the downloads, but honestly, iTunes serves as the platform to control access to purchased items. It should be possible that via iTunes apps can be purchased and installed on two more clients unsing authorization tables for the computers registered in iTunes. That's more user friendly than any refund process.

I will at least postpone my planned upgrade until this issue has been clarified.

Well, besides that, it makes no sense that, having bought a Lion license; you can take a plain Snow Leopard Mini, upgrade it to Lion for free, and then to Lion Server for $50 - while those of us who paid $500 for Snow Leopard Server have to pay $80 to upgrade it.

Until they tell me otherwise, I'm assuming this is an ordering glitch in the App Store, and will give them a couple of days to straighten it out.

At the moment there seems to be no way to buy Lion (for the Workstation) & Lion Server (incl. Lion) separatly.

I just received an answer from the iTunes Support Crew, that they already paiyed the money for my Lion back (at 02.00 am MET I asked via eMail to send me the money back).

    Conclusion:

Buy it, write eMail to the iTunes Support Crew with your transaction numbers, to send the money back.
